SCHOOL RULES AND POLICIES

In order for an institution to encourage higher learning, policies must be in place that

establish goals as set forth by the school management board. These policies establish
standards and help hold schools and educators accountable to the public. This is
important for relating education to the community and making it responsible to the larger
world. Accountability through the use of goal-oriented policies ensures that students are
receiving a valuable education.

Policies are important because they help a school establish rules and procedures and
create standards of quality for learning and safety, as well as expectations and
accountability. Without these, schools would lack the structure and function necessary
to provide the educational needs of students. Ultimately, policies are necessary to the
success and safety of a school.

Attendance- Absence from school, regardless of the reason limits your child’s
educational opportunities and can negatively affect his/ her grades and academic
achievement.

Notification of Absences- If your child is absent please call 8199981407 to 409 or

provide a written excuse from home when returning to school. Excused absences
include: illness, quarantine, doctor’s appointment, attending a funeral, religious holiday/
exercises, and others as per list of DEO office , Bhiwani and Board of School Education,
Haryana.

Extended Absence- If you know that your child will be absent for 5 or more
consecutive days, please contact the office so we can arrange an Independent Study
Agreement.

Tardies- Students arriving after the tardy bell are tardy. Each tardy means valuable
instructional time is lost. If your child is tardy he or she should report to the office for a
tardy slip.
Visitors on Campus- All visitors must sign in at the main office when they arrive and
sign out when they leave. This policy is for the safety of students, visitors, and staff. The
school needs to know who is on campus at all times. All visitors must wear a badge
while on school grounds. This badge/Visiting badges lets the other adults on campus
know that you have signed in.

School Discipline Philosophy- The goal of the student standards of conduct is to

maintain a safe school environment, which promotes academic achievement and
feelings of safety, respectfulness, and responsibility. At all times, Willard students are
expected to exhibit the attitudes of an Individual student: respect, empathy,
appreciation, tolerance, independence, integrity, curiosity, creativity, cooperation,
enthusiasm, and confidence.

The school staff has collaborated to adopt school-wide guidelines of expected behavior
for all of its locations. Our aim is to develop a school that is safe, respectful, and
responsible.  The following guidelines have been developed.

Rewards for appropriate behavior may include being recognized as a role model for
other students; earning positions of responsibility and leadership; receiving a positive
note or call home; attaining public recognition; earning leaves for exemplifying one of
the Individual Learner profile traits; and having personal satisfaction for doing the right
thing.

Consequences for misbehavior may include a verbal warning, loss of special

classroom privileges, a student/ parent/teacher conference; referral to Guidance
Assistant, referral to the Principal, and/ or suspension from school.

Suspensions

A child who gets into serious trouble at school can be suspended for a fixed period of
time. Schools can suspend a child if:

 they have seriously broken school rules

 allowing them to stay in school would seriously harm their education or welfare,
or the education or welfare of other pupils

Some other points to be implement are that:

 Only the Principal can suspend a pupil.
 an initial suspension must not exceed five days
 the Principal cannot extend a period of suspension without the previous approval
of the Chair of the Board of Governors
 your child can only be suspended for a maximum of 45 school days in any one
school year
 your child’s school is responsible for providing them with suitable work to do and
mark it although you may be asked to collect the work from the school and return
it when your child has completed it

The school should call you on the day your child is suspended. The Principal must also
provide immediate written notification to you, the Chair of the Board of members of
School. The letter should set out the period and reason for the suspension .

Expulsions

A school will usually only expel a pupil as a last resort after trying to improve the pupil’s
behaviour through other means. However, there are exceptional circumstances in which
a school may decide to expel a pupil for a ‘one-off’ offence.

The decision to expel your child can only be taken by the expelling authority, in the case
of serious issue of indiscipline and criminal offence.

A decision to expel can only be made after a consultation meeting takes place between
the Principal, the Chairperson of the Board of members. There should be a written
record of the meeting and your child’s future education should be part of the discussion.
