LIS 102

Librarians is a person whose name and license number are recorded in the Commission registry book
and they have the legal right to practice librarianship.

A librarian is someone who has a Certificate of Registration and Professional Identification Card that is
provided by the Professional Regulatory Board for Librarians and the Professional Regulation
Commission.
Sila po yung may certificate of registration and professional identification card na provided ng board
at ng prc at may legal right to practice librarianship..

PRC -is a three-member commission linked to the Department of Labor and Employment that
regulates and supervises the practice of professionals that make up the country's highly trained labor
force.

Librarianship is a profession concerned with the application of the principles, theories, techniques and
technologies of recorded knowledge that contribute to the establishment, organization,
dissemination, utilization, and preservation of collections of library material.

Librarianship is a profession that focuses on the application of concepts, ideas, techniques, and
technologies of recorded knowledge that aid to the development, organization, dissemination, usage,
and preservation of library materials.

Ra 9246 “The Philippine Librarianship Act of 2003”,


- it is an act that covers the modernize practice of librarianship in the Philippines, repealing the
Republic Act 696
Republic Act 9246 is a law that modifies the Republic Act 6966 to improve and modernize the practice
of librarianship in the Philippines.

RA 6966 - Republic Act 6966 is a law that governs the profession of librarianship and establishes the
criteria for librarians.

Scope and Practices

- Selection and acquisition of multi-media information sources that will best meet the needs of clients
for adequate, relevant, and timely information.
- Cataloguing and classification of sources of information into relevant organized collections for quick
access, retrieval, and dissemination of information.
- Organization, conservation, preservation and restoration of historical and cultural documents and
other intellectual properties.

Code of Ethics - Section 8, Article 2 OF RA no. 9246

Personal Competencies - ito po yung mga skills na applicable at nirerequired sa lahat ng mga
professions kumbaga general skills po siya at eto yung kailangan natin para madevelop ang
professional competencies natin, example po ng personal competencies ay yung communication and
leadership skills natin.

Professional Competencies - ito po yung mga specific abilities and knowledge na related o connected
lamang sa profession na kinuha natin,kumbaga maaari po siyang hindi maging applicable or hindi na
nirerequired ng ibang professions halimbawa po dito is catalouging na applicable lamang sa
librarianship since yung ibang profession kasi like nurse ay di kailangan ng ganong skill.

Communication is important dahil if magaling tayo makipagcommunicate, nakakapagbuild tayo ng


trust beween our customers which is important para ma-enhance yung performance or customer
service natin.
Customer Service - how happy the customers are.
If nasasatisfied ang isang customer sa performance or services ng isang librarian, mapapaganda at
maiaangat po neto yung image or reputation ng isang library at ng mga librarians, at di lang yun,
matututo rin po na respetuhin at pagkakatiwalaan ng isang customer ang isang librarian.

Librarians Code of Ethics - eto po yung mga set of ethics and values na kailangang sundin ng lahat ng
mga librarians para magsilbing guide while they are practicing librarianship.

Leadership - is the act of motivating, influencing, guiding and collaborating with others in order to
reach a common goal.
Leverage strengths to motivate, collaborate and guide. The ability to use a positive attitude to
influence and empower others to reach a shared goal through strategic thinking and effective
decision-making.

Lifelong Learning and Personal Growth - It helps us to develop ourselves for us to become a beter
person.
