On July 25, 1872, Santiago Alvarez, the revolutionary general and founder and
honorary president of the first leadership of the Nationalist Party, was born in Imus,
Cavite. He was known as Kidlat ng Apoy (Lightning of Fire) because of his ardent
bravery and dedication as commander of the Dalhican battle, Cavite. The "Hero of the
Battle of Dalahican" was popularly acclaimed. His writing is a primary source because
the Tejeros convention is found in chapter 32 of the memoirs of Gen. Santiago Alvarez,
as we all know, the memoir is written from the point of view of the author, about an
important part of their life as its primary source, and Alvarez was also a direct
participant and a witness to the events that took place in the election.

2. Who is Teodoro Agoncillo? How come his writing is a secondary source?


He is a prominent 20th century Filipino History. He and his contemporary Renato
Constantino were among the first Filipino historians renowned for promoting a distinctly
nationalist point of view of Filipino history. His writing was a secondary source simply
because he is not yet born when the convention was happened so he is basically not
present during the event and cannot be considered as a witness.
