2.Advantage Of E- AutoCAD

Increase Productivity
AutoCAD Electrical software is for controls designers, it contains many features and benefits that
enable users to dramatically increase design efficiency, while maintaining a smooth integration with
the familiar AutoCAD environment.

Reduce errors and comply with industry standards

AutoCAD Electrical includes automatic error-checking capabilities that help designers perform real-
time diagnostics to catch problems before the build phase of a project.

Manage design data

Once the design is complete, it is important to share accurate design and part information with
manufacturing. Creating crucial parts lists, BOMs, and from/to wire lists using software that is not
built specifically for these tasks can waste valuable time and resources. AutoCAD Electrical includes
robust automated reporting tools so the design data being shared with downstream users is correct and
current.

Facilitate collaborations
AutoCAD Electrical enables both electrical and mechanical teams to work collaboratively by making
it easy to share the electrical design intent for cables and conductors directly with team members,
adding valuable electrical controls design data to the digital prototype.

3.Application of E-AutoCAD

Generate manufacturing documentation which is released to manufacturing as part of the

specification used to source, fabricates and produces PCBs.

Diagramming capabilities allow engineers to define what electronic components are used and what
signals are used to connect them. Engineers select components from a companystandardized library
that is centrally controlled.

Layout capabilities provide a means to create the PCB’s outline and dimensionally place components
within its boundaries. The list of electronic components used in the diagram is carried over to the
layout, where it almost becomes a to-do list for placement.

Automation capabilities, which automatically routes traces from components to components based on
interconnect information, is available. This can be done initially and then customized.

Bill of Material (BOM) capabilities automatically generates the list of electrical components for the
PCB.

4.Introduction Of 2D AutoCAD

AutoCAD is 2d and 3d computer-aided designing software, which Autodesk developed. We have

different types of 2d and 3d commands in AutoCAD to make our drawing work easy. Today we

will discuss one of the 2d commands and learn how to add patterns on a particular object of our

drawing for identity that objects as different from another object. Here in this article, we will

understand this topic by using the 2d Command command of auto cad command and analyze its

different parameters for learning about it. So let us start our learning about this command.

5.Basic AutoCAD Command :

 L – L stands for the line, the very basic command to draw a line.

 C – C to draw a circle

 REC – REC is for the rectangle; you can draw a rectangle in AutoCAD using this option

 ARC – This command is used to create the arc in AutoCAD

 POL – As the name suggests, it is to draw a polygon on the AutoCAD workspace. Using this

option, you can draw a shape from 3 to 1024 sides.

 CO – This command is to copy any shape drawn on the workspace

 B – This command is used in AutoCAD to create a block, and the properties of the block can

also be defined in the Block window

 F – F stands for fillets in Auto CAD. This command is used to make sharp edges of the shapes

round and smooth.

 SC – This command can be used to change the scaling of the selected object

 OP – This command is used in AutoCAD to open the options Window, where most AutoCAD

settings are present.

6. Basic AutoCAD Function Keys

7|Page

Rreport
1. F1
This function key opens the AutoCAD Help window. It allows the user to take help online if he/she is
facing any functional issue in this software. If a user is working offline, then by pressing this key, all
the functionalities of this software will be opened in PDF format.

2. F2
This key opens a pop-up screen showing the command line on the bottom. This command is useful to
the user who feels difficulty in seeing the command window on the bottom of the screen.

3. F3
This command automatically activates the O snap feature of AutoCAD. O Snap feature of this
software helps to draw your drawing accurately. This will allow you to snap at the specific location of
your object while you are picking any point. For example, a user can accurately pick up two points of
the line, the center of a circle, etc. If you again press this key, the software will come out from this
command.

4. F4
This key will open the O snap feature while working in 3 dimensional. This command will allow us to
accurately pinpoint on the particular position of a body.

5. F5
ISOPLANE is the plane with an angle of 30 degrees from horizontal. By using this shortcut key, we
can create any drawing in ISOPLANE.

ISOPLANE provides the following modes when working with a 2D isometric view of 3D models:

1. Ortho Direction
2. Snap Orientation
3. Grid Orientation
4. Polar Tracking Angles
5. The orientation of Isometric circles

This command will affect the cursor movement only when the snap style is set as isometric. If
the snap style is set as Isometric, Ortho mode will use the appropriate axis pair from 30, 90,

8|Page
Self Study Course
Rreport
and 150 degrees. By pressing this command again, we can alter between three ISO planes that
are top, right and left.

6. F6
This function key turns dynamic UCS on or off. UCS is a user coordinate system that a user can
define according to his requirement. Before 2007 when this command is not available while working,
the 3D user has to create a new coordinate system every time he/she changes his drawing view. This
command is only used when working on 3-dimensional objects.

7. F7
This function key will display grids in your AutoCAD drawing. The grid system allows the user to reorient
him, and after that, he can focus on his design. He/She can make the grid visibility off by pressing this key
again. By changing isometric planes, the user changes his viewpoint when working in AutoCAD’s Isometric
mode. It allows him/her to move viewpoint relative to the 2D isometric object .

8. F8
This command will turn ORTHO mode on or off. This is one of the most useful keys in AutoCAD.
This mode is used when the user has to specify an angle or distance using two points using a pointing
device. By using this mode, cursor movement will become constrained in the horizontal or vertical
direction relative to the user coordinate system.

9. F9
This key will make a snap grid on or off. Grids are the rectangular pattern of dot-like structure in
AutoCAD that covers the entire XY plane of the user coordinate system. Using Grid in AutoCAD is
like using the grid paper under your drawing. This will allow the user to align objects and visualize
distances between them. By using this key, you can easily snap to a rectangular grid and create your
drawing more easily and efficiently.

10. F10
This function key will allow the user to use the polar tracking option of AutoCAD software. The polar
Snapping command will restrict your cursor movement only to specified increments along with the
polar angles. Polar tracking will display temporary alignment paths defined by those polar angles you
had earlier specified. It also provides additional alignment in up and down directions. This command
is useful while working on objects having more than one different orientation when one part of the
object is rotated 45 degrees in relation to another part. While working with this command ORTHO
command will automatically be shut off.

11. F11
This key will allow using Object Snap Tracking Command. Object Snap allows the user to snap onto
the specific object location when you are picking a point. This is used with other commands to draw
your design more accurately. It is so important to command that you will never be able to draw
accurately without it. Some designers use the object Snap Tracking command always ON and never
turn it OFF.

12. F12
This command will allow us to use the Dynamic Input command of this software. Dynamic Input
provides user cursor input, dimension input, and dynamic prompts. When you right-click after
selecting dynamic input, you can select any input according to your requirement. By using this, you
can provide dimension inputs near your cursor instead of specifying them on the command line.

7.AutoCAD Tools

1. Line
You can invoke the LINE command by choosing the LINE tool from the Draw panel, or you can also
invoke the LINE tool by entering LINE or L at the Command Prompt. You will have to specify the
starting point of the line by clicking the mouse then you will be prompted to specify the second point.
You can terminate the LINE command by pressing ENTER, ESC or SPACEBAR.

2. Circle
A circle is drawn by using the CIRCLE command. You can draw a circle by using six different tools,
i.e., by specifying center and radius, by specifying center and diameter, by specifying two diametrical
ends, by specifying three points on a circle, tangent to two objects, tangent to three objects.

3. Rectangle
You can draw rectangles by specifying two opposite corners of the rectangle, specifying the area and
the size of one of the sides, or specifying the rectangle’s dimensions.

4. Polyline
Polylines means many lines. To draw a polyline, you need to invoke the PLINE command. After
invoking the PLINE command and specifying the start point, the following prompt is displayed.

5. Trim
When creating a design, you may need to remove the unwanted and extending edge. In such cases,
you can use the Trim tool. On invoking the Trim tool, you will be prompted to select the cutting
edges. These edges can be lines, polylines, circles, arcs, ellipses, rays, splines, text, blocks, xlines or
even viewports. After the cutting edge/edges are selected, you must select each object to be trimmed.

6. Extend
The Extend tool may be considered as the opposite of the Trim tool. You can extend lines, polylines,
rays, and arcs to meet the other objects using the Extend tool. You can use this option whenever you
want to extend the objects that do not actually intersect the boundary edge but would intersect its edge
if the boundary edges were extended.

7. Copy
This tool is used to make the copies of the selected objects and place them at the specified location.
On invoking this tool, you need to select the objects and then specify the base point. Next, you need to

11 | P a g e
Self Study Course
Rreport
specify the second point where the copied objects have to be placed. You can continue specifying the
second point for creating multiple copies of the selected entities.

8. Mirror
This tool is used to create a mirror copy of the selected objects. The objects can be mirrored at any
angle. This tool is helpful in drawing symmetrical figures. On invoking this tool, you will be
prompted to select objects. On selecting objects to be mirrored, you will be prompted to enter the first
point of the mirror line and the second point of the mirror line. A mirror line is an imaginary line
about which the objects are mirrored.

9. Rotate
On invoking this tool, you will be prompted to select the objects and the base point about which the
selected objects will be rotated. By default, a positive angle results in counterclockwise rotation,
whereas a negative angle results in a clockwise rotation. The Rotate tool can also be invoked from the
shortcut menu by selecting an object and right-clicking in the drawing area, and choosing Rotate from
the shortcut menu.

10. Erase
Sometimes, you need to erase the unwanted objects from the objects drawn. To erase an object,
choose Erase tool from the Modify panel. To invoke the Modify toolbar, choose
View>Windows>Toolbars>AutoCAD>Modify from the ribbon. A small box, known as a pick box,
replaces the screen cursor on invoking the Erase tool. To erase the object, select it by using the pick
box; the selected object will be displayed in dashed lines, and the Select objects prompt will be
displayed again. You can either continue selecting the objects or press ENTER to terminate the object
selection process and erase the selected objects.

11. Offset
You can use the Offset tool to draw parallel lines, polylines, concentric circles, arcs, curves, etc.,
While offsetting an object, you need to specify the offset distance and the side to offset.

12. Move
The Move Tool is used to move one or more objects from their current location to a new location
without changing their size or orientation.

13. Array
You may need to create an object multiple times in a rectangular or circular arrangement in some
cases. This type of arrangement can be obtained by creating an array of objects. In Rectangular Array,
12 | P a g e
Self Study Course
Rreport
you need to mention the number of rows and columns along with the Row offset distance and Column
offset distance. Whereas in Polar Array, you need to specify the Center point around which you need
the number of objects.

14. Scale
Sometimes you need to change the size of objects in a drawing. For this purpose, the Scale tool comes
in handy.

15. Fillet
The edges in a model are generally filleted to reduce the area of stress concentration. The fillet tool
helps form round corners between any two entities that form a sharp vertex.

16. Explode
This tool is useful when you have inserted an entire drawing, and you need to alter a small detail.
After you invoke the Explode tool, you are prompted to select the objects you want to explode. After
selecting the objects, press ENTER or right-click to explode the selected objects and then end the
command.
