Standard(s):
VDOE K-12 Safety
Lesson Procedures:
As a whole group, the teacher will ask the kids what they think would be an expectation for lab safety.
Once the students have an idea of what they think lab safety looks like the teacher will show the following
video to the class.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsAHt0FiwNM
Now that the students have watched the video, the class will reflect on the precautions they must take
while in the lab. The teacher will write on the board as students individually share one safety rule they saw
in the video when called on. As a team, the class will continue to share and construct expectations for Lab
Safety. Once they have included every rule, the teacher will create a poster (after school) to display in the
room.
For a fun activity before assessment, students will play Khoot! Students will be put into groups of 3 or
more. Each group will have an Ipad/Chromebook to answer the question from Khoot!

Now that the students understand what they must do during lab, they will take an assessment to insure
they have knowledge of what is require from them while in the lab. The assessment will be a sort activity.
This assessment will be given to each student. Students who receive a read aloud will have the different
sorts read allowed to them by the special education paraprofessional. Sort Assessment link:
