Video Analysis - Magallanes

The document describes a community called Sitio Katamakawan whose residents lead sedentary and unhealthy lifestyles. They sit around all day, eat junk food, and have maids do household chores. This puts them at risk for diseases like obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes. If advising friends in the community, one would encourage healthier eating, light exercise daily like walking or household chores, and recreational activities for children like playing games. Technology overuse has downsides like eye strain and poor sleep, but can also be used for health tracking applications.

Alexandra Jane Magallanes

Ojectives:
1. To determine the risk factors related to lifestyle diseases
2. To suggest ways on how to improve one’s physical activity and
fitness

Watch the dramatize story about Sitio

Katamakawan. Describe the lifestyle of the
people of this community. (Answer the
questions below)
1. Search the Dramatized Story Video about Sitio Katamakawan on
Youtube. Copy the link below. (Link: https://youtu.be/9yCYhW6oEYw )

Note: If internet or data connection is unavailable: Kindly

read the story below about “Sitio Katamakawan” “Sitio
Katamakawan is a community of lazy and gluttonous
people. They sit or lie all day and eat everything on their
mouth desires. Each family has a housemaid to take care
of all the household chores. The children of this
community are addicted to playing computer games
although they maintain their passing grades. They are not
allowed to play outside to prevent accidents. Most of the
time, the teenager surf the internet. Most of the parents
are overweight because after their work, they watch
television while having night snacks. Some men are into
smoking and drinking alcohol.”

Answer the following Questions:

1. Would you like to live in this community? Why?

I would never want to live in this community. I believe that

people's behavior, lifestyle, mood, and motivation to act may all be
influenced by their surroundings. It could be beneficial or detrimental.
Basically, our environment shapes who we will become in the future.
If I live in Sitio Katamakawan, which has a horrible type of
environment, my life will undoubtedly be in shambles. What I am
seeing or experiencing may be passed down to me. For example, if
there are so many alcoholics in my community, I may become one of
them because I will assume it is natural and good since I see
everyone doing it. Furthermore, simply viewing the video made me
irritated due to their way of living. It is extremely toxic and dangerous
to one's physical and mental wellbeing, especially for children and
teenagers like me who are still establishing or exploring in life. These
are my reasons why I will never choose to live in Sitio Katamakawan.

2. Which health dimensions are sustained, and do the people

live a physically active and healthy lifestyle?

The social health dimension has been maintained by the

community of Sitio Katamakawan. Despite each individual's toxic
behavior, there was still a good bond between some of the characters
in the video. One example is Aling Lottie, the maid of Family Pilapil
for nearly 9 years. We can conclude from this that she developed
deep relationships with the family because she stayed so long
despite how toxic they were. The second is the bond between the
mother and daughters at the end of the video, where they bond over
the daughters' passing grades. Despite their toxic lifestyles, they
nonetheless have this kind of health dimension. On the other hand,
this family does not live a physically active and healthy lifestyle
because their daily life consists of sitting and having fun. The children
are always on their phones, the parents are overweight as a result of
drinking, watching television while snacking, and some of the men
are into smoking and drinking alcohol. They have their Yaya to do all
the housekeeping chores to the point that they are just sitting all day.

3. What are the possible diseases the people of this community

might have?

-Obesity -Liver Cancer

-Seizures -Stroke
-Eye Problems -Heart Failure
-High-Blood

4. What are the risk factors of these diseases?

-Obesity: Lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating patterns, not

enough sleep, and high amounts of stress.
-Seizure: High fever, high or low blood sugar, alcohol or drug
withdrawal, and a brain concussion.
-Eye Problems: Diabetes, excessive exposure to sunlight or
gadgets, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, drinking excessive
amounts of alcohol, and previous eye surgery.
-High Blood: Unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, obesity, too much
alcohol, and tobacco use.
-Liver Cancer: Cirrhosis, certain inherited liver diseases, diabetes,
nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, exposure to aflatoxins, and excessive
alcohol consumption.
-Stroke: High blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, smoking, high
red blood cell count, lack of exercise, obesity, excessive alcohol use,
and illegal drugs.
-Heart Failure: Obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea,
chronic kidney disease, anemia, thyroid disease, and iron overload.
-Diabetes: Obesity, inactivity, family history, age, gestational
diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome. high blood pressure, abnormal
cholesterol, and triglyceride levels.

5. If you were a friend of one of the members of this community,

what would you advise her/him to achieve fitness?

If I had friends in this type of community, I would first educate

them and point out all of the bad things they are doing. I will urge
them not to imitate what others in their community are doing because
it may have long-term consequences for their physical and emotional
health. If they are doing something similar to them, such as drinking
and smoking, I will warn them of the health risks that they may face if
they continue to do so. I will definitely provide them with a list of
healthy foods that they can eat, and I will encourage them to avoid
unhealthful foods such as junk food. If they are doing nothing, I would
recommend that they partake in or help with certain household
chores so that they may get some exercise while also providing help
to their parents. Lastly, I will encourage them to exercise and explain
the benefits of doing so. Of course, I will join them on their journey of
change so that they have someone to motivate them if they fear they
are incapable of making these changes.

6. What are the advantages and disadvantages of media and

technology to our health?
ADVENTAGES:
Technology may help in the treatment of more sick patients,
saving more lives and combating extremely lethal viruses and
germs.
Communication is improved, and businesses can deal more
effectively with other countries. Research is therefore made
easier, and there is no more stress.
Technology has contributed to the development of doctor-patient
relationships.
This is a way for others to develop themselves as human beings
that have different talents. It can also be a safe place for people
who are uncomfortable talking to others face-to-face.
There are health applications that can help you keep track of your
diet and mental health data.

DISADVANTAGES:
Prolonged use of computers, tablets, and cellphones can lead to
digital eye strain.
Overuse of technology can lead to repetitive strain injuries of the
fingers, thumbs, wrists, neck, shoulders, and spine.
Having electronic devices in the bedroom places temptation at
your fingertips, and it can make switching off more difficult. That,
in turn, can make it harder to drift off when you try to sleep.
Using social media can make you feel inadequate or left out in
the world. It can also cause many mental problems, such as
anxiety and depression.
There's less real interaction with people and the world. That’s why
when you go out into the real world, you’ll feel overwhelmed,
scared, and anxious.
7. What recreational physical activities can you suggest to the
children, teenagers, and adult members of Sitio Katamakawan?

For the children, I encourage them to be active every day by

walking outside with their parents or older siblings, cycling with
friends near the house with their parents' permission, and playing
games like "Run Away From the Monster," "Freeze Tag," "Jump
Waves," and so on to develop some skills and become physically
stronger.

Teenagers and adults can do light physical activities such as

making their beds and walking every morning to buy some breakfast
outside. Another way is to engage in modest activities or exercise
such as bicycling, push-ups, squatting, planking, and running while
listening to some pop music to keep your mind upbeat and alive.
They can also make household choirs lighter and more enjoyable by
listening to songs that motivate them. If they have a 1-4-year-old
niece or nephew, they can hoist them up as a type of workout for
their body, particularly in their arms. The final thing I recommend is
that they encourage their family members to dance with them on a
daily basis as a form of exercise and a way for them to bond.
