and my friends. Today, I am going to tell you a moral value story entitled
‘Sausages’.
One day, a poor woodcutter named John found an elf stuck in a rose
thorn. ‘Poor little thing!’ said John, and gently lifted the elf free.
‘Thank you,’said the elf. ‘In return for your kindness, I grant you three
magic wishes.’ He shook out of his wings and flew away, calling back, ‘Be
careful what you wish for!’ And he was gone. John rush home to tell his
wife the good news.
‘Dear Martha,’he said, ‘We shall be rich for the rest of our lives. Ha ha ha
(laugh). We must sit down, think hard, and chose our three wishes very
carefully.’ So John and Martha sat by the fire and thought and thought,
and thought again, of all the lovely things they could wish for.
But it was difficult to choose. John was thinking of having a sack of gold
coins. ‘Ha! Ha! Ha! (Big laugh). I will be rich! I am not going to share it
with the villagers. Let them envy me.’ And as he was about to make a
wish, suddenly a thought came to his mind, ‘Err...but, if I wish for a sack of
gold, maybe it is not enough for me..and also for my wife.’ They sighed,
and thought some more. Tring (action)
‘Arr...if I were you, I would rather had a golden axe for myself. You should
have one golden axe,’ said Martha. John could not think of anything. He
became greedy. ‘I don’t want to chop a tree anymore. I want to become
rich without doing anything! You stupid!’ shout John to his wife.
After several hours, John felt his tummy rumbling. It would not stop. ‘I’m
starving, Martha,’ he said. ‘I wish we had some sausages.’
and............with a WH....OOOOS, out from the chimney shot a string of
sizzling, succulent sausages! Martha and John stared at the sausages
and they stared at each other. ‘You foolish man!’ cried Martha. ‘You’ve
wasted a whole wish. Just think of all the grand things we could have
choose with that wish. And all we’ve got is sausages! John was really
angry at that time. With full of anger, he shouted at his wife, ‘It is all
because of you. If you are not here, maybe I can make my own wish.
Martha became angry and said ‘I wish these silly sausages will stuck to
the end of your nose! And guess what...? Yes! WH....OOO...SH!
The sausages leapt on to the end of John’s nose, where they stuck fast.
Two wishes gone and nothing but sausages. And they were on John’s
nose. Now John was really angry. ‘For goodness sake, Martha, ‘he cried,
Get these things off my nose!’ Well Martha tugged at the sausages and
she pulled... And she pulled...and she tugged. But she could not pull the
sausages off the end of John’s nose. So she let go and John fell on the
floor with a bump. ‘Oh by poor, poor dose,’ he said. ‘It’s so sore!’ ‘My dear
husband,’ cried Martha, feeling sorry for John.
‘We have been through good times and bad times together. It’s silly for
stupid wishes to make us cross,’ She took a deep breath. ‘I wish these
sausages would fall off John’s nose.’ And WH...OOO....SH. They did.
John gave Martha a big hug. ‘I’m sorry Martha for not listening to you.
Well, my dear, we have lost our chance to be rich, but we have each other
and we should be thankful for what we have. And a very good dinner! And
far away, a little elf laughed.
My dear friends, the moral of the story is, we must not be greedy at all
times. We should be thankful of what we have and appreciate things that
were given to us. Always use the opportunity wisely and do not waste
them. Always help the poor people and those who are in need especially
during our current crucial time of staying at home and many people ended
jobless due to closing of working places.
