o RESEARCH TOPIC :

The future of India in the Olympics

o STATEMENT PROBLEM :
Olympics is the leading and most prestigious international sporting event featuring summer
and winter sports competitions in which athletes from around the world participate in a
variety of competitions. The Olympic games are considered the world’s foremost sports
competition with more than 200 nations participating. Olympic Games are generally held
every 4 years.
From Paris 1900 to Tokyo 2020, India’s tryst with the Olympics spans over a hundred years.
A century of Olympics is filled with a number of highs and lows and a couple of heartbreaks
along the way. India has won about 35 medals across 24 Olympic games – including gold,
silvers and bronze.
Despite India excelling in so many different fields around the world in terms of art and
culture, there hasn’t been major recognition of India in the sports area ; especially in the
Olympics. When there is no recognition earned by the country, opportunities will be lost
and true talents of so many Indians are not recognized and shined.
The Indian Olympic Association admits the country has not always done enough to support
its athletes, but says there is more to India's sorry performance than just a shortage of cash
or organization. Many Indian families prefer education over sports and even when people
excel in sports, many are discouraged by their families and wider communities.
So this research mainly focuses about whether sports are prioritized well enough just as
other arts in India and the future possibility of excelling in the Olympics. It also focuses on
around the stigma created about sports that runs in India.
