1657948379-Multiple Intelligence CW

Gardner proposed the theory of multiple intelligences which posits that intelligence is not a single entity and instead exists in distinct types. Gardner described 8 types of intelligence - linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Each intelligence represents a different skill set and people tend to excel in some over others. The theory challenged the traditional view that intelligence is a single general ability and was influential in education reform.

Multiple Intelligence

By Himanshi Singh
• Gardner believed that people have different ways of
thinking and learning.

Theory of Multiple Intelligences (M.I)
• Intelligence is not a single entity; rather distinct types of intelligences
exist.
• Each of these intelligences are independent of each other.
Gardner described 8 different kinds of intelligence:

1. Visual-spatial intelligence
2. Linguistic-verbal intelligence
3. Mathematical intelligence
4. Kinesthetic intelligence
5. Musical intelligence
6. Interpersonal intelligence
7. Intrapersonal intelligence
8. Naturalistic intelligence
1. Linguistic: (skills involved in the production and
use of language)
• Persons high on this intelligence are ‘word-smart’.
1. Linguistic Intelligence (भा#षक ब(
ु )ध)

• Lawyers,
• Lecturers,
• Writers,
• Journalists
• Lyricists
2. Logical-Mathematical (skills in scientific
thinking and problem solving)
• Persons high on this type of intelligence can think logically and
critically.
• Scientists and Nobel Prize winners are likely to be strong in this
component.
2. Logical-mathematical Intelligence
(ता-क.क-ग0णतीय ब(
ु )ध)

• Scientists,
• Mathematicians.
3. Spatial (skills in forming visual images and
patterns)
• Pilots, sailors, sculptors, painters, architects, interior decorators, and
surgeons are likely to have highly developed spatial intelligence.
3. Spatial Intelligence (!था$नक ब)
ु *ध)

• Painters,
• Architects,
• Surveyors,
• Navigators,
• Sculptors,
• Chess players.
4. Musical (sensitivity to musical rhythms and
patterns)
• It is the capacity to produce, create and manipulate musical
patterns.
4. Musical Intelligence (सं#गतीय ब*
ु #ध)

• Musicians,
• Instrumentalists,
• Composers.
5. Bodily-Kinaesthetic (using whole or portions
of the body flexibly and creatively)
• Athletes, dancers, actors, sportspersons, gymnasts, and
surgeons are likely to have such kind of intelligence.
5. Bodily-Kinesthetic (का/यक ग/तक1य ब*ु #ध)

• Athletes,
• Dancers,
• Actors,
• Gymnasts
6. Interpersonal (sensitivity to subtle aspects of
others’ behaviours)
• Psychologists, counsellors, politicians, social workers, and
religious leaders are likely to possess high interpersonal
intelligence.
6. Interpersonal Intelligence (अंत6य.ि8तक ब(
ु )ध )

• Teachers,
• Psychotherapists,
• Salesman,
• Politicians,
• Religious leaders.
7. Intrapersonal (awareness of one’s own feelings,
motives, and desires)
• Persons high on this ability have finer sensibilities regarding their
identity, human existence, and meaning of life.
7. Intrapersonal Intelligence (अंत: 6यि8तक)

• Philosophers,
• Spiritually inclined people.
8. Naturalistic (sensitivity to the features of the
natural world)
• Hunters, farmers, tourists, botanists, zoologists, and bird watchers
possess more of naturalistic intelligence.
8. Naturalistic Intelligence (2ाकृ/तक ब*ु #ध)

• Environmentalists,
• Botanists,
• Zoologists,
• Wild life photographers.
Philip E. Vernon
• It was influenced by the theory of g factor.
• He extracted the g factor from an ability test, then found that those
remaining content could be divided into two separate parts.
