Quraish came and the Prophet ( )ﷺthen said, “Suppose I told you that there is an (enemy)
cavalry in the valley intending to attack you, would you believe me?” They said, “Yes, for we
have not found you telling anything other than the truth.” He then said, “I am a warner to you in
face of a terrific punishment.” Abu Lahab said (to the Prophet) “May your hands perish all this
day. Is it for this purpose you have gathered us?” Then it was revealed: “Perish the hands of Abu
Lahab (one of the Prophet’s uncles), and perish he! His wealth and his children will not profit
him….” (Surah Masad verse 1-5)

Real name of Abu lahab was Abd al-'Uzzā. He and his wife, Arwā bint Harb, were severe enemies

after it.
When a little amount of time for Prophet ُم َح َّمد ﷺwas left on earth, it was told to spend

Surah Quraish
During the early generations of Muslim scholars this surah was known as the chapter, “For the
constant security of the Quraysh.”

and Lordship since He protected them by blessing their business transactions, and provided for
them physically, with food and spiritually, by protecting them from fear.
Surah Al-Feel
Makki surah containing 5 verses.
The word “ ”الفيلmeaning “The Elephant”
Revealed in Makkah most probably during the early days of Prophet ُم َح َّمد ﷺproclamation of his
Prophethood.
A Narration of King of Yemen Abraha Who Attacked on Makkah With His Elephants. And How
Allah Destroyed Him by Small Birds.
Abraha established a grand and expensive church in its capital Sana because he had seen the
love and passion the Yemeni Arabs had for Holy Kabba, and he hoped to attract them away from
there and to his capital at Sana. If the Arabs performed the pilgrimage in Sana instead of Mecca,
it would turn the monetary benefits to Yemen.
This did not happen, and Abrahah decided to attack Mecca. He arranged an army, that also
included 13 elephants, intending to demolish the Kaaba. On his campaign, he succeeded in
overcoming all the Arab armies until he reached Makkah.
Rest event: https://www.thelastdialogue.org/surah-al-feel-summary/
As per traditions, the event took place at Muhassir by the Muhassab valley between Muzdalifah
and Mina. Traditions state that when Prophet Muhammed proceeded from Muzdalifah to Mina,
he increased his speed in the valley of Muhassir. Al Nawawi has explained it saying that the
incident of the people of the elephant had occurred there, therefore, the pilgrims have been
enjoined to pass by quickly, for Muhassir is a tormented place. It is stated in Muatta that
Muhammad said that “the whole of Muzdalifah is a fit place for staying, but one should not stay
in the valley of Muhassir.”
Surah Humazah
Makki surah contain 9 verses
This Surah was revealed in the early stages of Islam when people were just accepting this new
religion.
Al-Hammaz refers to slander by speech, and Al-Lammaz refers to slander by action
In this ayah, Allah is saying Woe to those who slander others and backbite. This can include
people who repeatedly find faults with others, either verbally or physically.
This ayah continuing on the first ayah, further refers to those who hoard their wealth and make
a habit of counting it.
Slanderers and greedy people will be treated as worthless on the Day of Judgement, because all
they cared about was their wealth and mocked others for lack of it.
Here, the Hellfire is called Allah’s Fire for the first time in the Quran. This is to signify His
contempt for those who hoard wealth and slander others, and how they cannot escape His Fire
with their wealth.
Surah al-Humazah tells us not to indulge in backbiting, nor slander others. Furthermore, we
must not be proud of our material possessions and wealth, especially because the money
earned in this world will not help us purchase anything in the Hereafter, if we use it for our
greed and dishonest ways.
Al-Asr
Makki surah containing 3 verses.
It was the thirteenth chapter revealed to the Prophet ﷺ, after Surah al-Inshirah and before
Surah al-‘Adiyat.
Imam al-Razi states that the pagan Meccans used to say, “Muhammad is a loser.” Thus, this
chapter was sent.
Objectives:
o Affirms great loss for those who reject God’s message after it reached them correctly,
and for those who accepted it but failed to live according to it.
o Promise of success and felicity for those who believe in God, coupling that with acts of
righteousness.
o The blessings of working together.
o The blessings of truth.
o The importance of patience.
In-depth explanation: https://www.virtualmosque.com/multimedia/video/explanation-of-the-
chapter-of-quran-al-asr/
What is clear from this verse is that faith and good deeds are causes for one to be successful in
the Hereafter. It is also understood that their opposites are causes for one to be a loser. This
includes those who reject God and those who, although they accept faith, fail to observe its
mandates without repenting.
Surah Takathur
Makki surah containing 8 verses.
Objective:
Mankind has been warned against the greed for wealth and competition in worldly things.
Human beings are naturally greedy for wealth and money. A man dies while they are competing
with each other in order to gain wealth in abundance. But he does not take any preparation for
life after death. But one should not do so because wealth is short-lived. Greed for worldly things
diverts people. But the success and benefits of the Qyamat are far better than all these worldly
things. So, mankind should give more priority to the Akhirat rather than this world. If men could
realize the reality of the Akhirat! Men will be able to realize Akhirat after death. They will
observe it with the eye of certainty. But then they will be unable to do anything. Rather, they
will be asked about the bliss they are enjoying on the earth. They will see the hellfire because of
the greed and unlawfulness and sins they committed.
Prophet Muhammad (Sm.) once said to his Shahabis ‘there is none among you who is able to
recite one thousand verses every day. They replied, ‘Yes, there is hardly anyone who has the
ability to recite one thousand verses. Then the Prophet (Sm.) asked them, “is there anybody
who can recite sura Takathur every day?’ it is to be mentioned that reciting this surah once
every day equals to reciting one thousand verses. (Mazhari)
Background:
Banu Abd Manaf, Banu Kusai, and Banu Sahm were the sub-clans of the Quraysh tribe. Each of
these clans used to tell others “we are superior to you in every way, be it leadership, be it power
or be it population”.
Banu Abd Manaf was proved to be the top of all. Then everyone said, “we’ll also count those
who are dead”. So, they went to the graveyard and started to count the graves along with the
names of the dead person. Now Banu Sahm got three families more in number. So, they had a
large population in the age of Jahiliyyah. Under this situation, this sura was revealed.
Jabir bin Abdullah says: The Prophet (peace be upon him) once visited us and we served him
with fresh dates and gave him cool water to drink. Thereupon he said: These are of the blessings
about which you will be questioned. (Musnad Ahmad, Nasai, Ibn Jarir, Ibn al-Mundhir, Ibn
Marduyah, Abd bin Humaid, Baihaqi in Ash-Shuab).
These Ahadith make it explicit that not only the disbelievers but the righteous believers too will
be questioned.
Surah Qariah
Makki surah contains 11 verses.
(His mother will be Hawiyah.) It has been said that this means he will be falling and tumbling
headfirst into the fire of Hell, and the expression `his mother’ has been used to refer to his brain
(as it is the mother of his head). A statement similar to this has been reported from Ibn `Abbas,
`Ikrimah, Abu Salih, and Qatadah. Qatadah said, “He will fall into the Hellfire on his head.” Abu
Salih made a similar statement when he said, “They will fall into the Fire on their heads.” It has
also been said that it means his mother that he will return to and end up within the Hereafter
will be Hawiyah, which is one of the names of the Hellfire. Ibn Jarir said, “Al-Hawiyah is only
called his mother because he will have no other abode except for it.” Ibn Zayd said, “Al-Hawiyah
is the Fire, and it will be his mother and his abode to which he will return, and where he will be
settled.”
It has been narrated in a Hadith that Imam Ahmad recorded from Abu Hurayrah that the
Prophet said, (Verily, the person who will receive the lightest torment of the people of the
Hellfire will be a man who will have two sandals that will cause his brain to boil. )”
It has been confirmed in the Two Sahihs that the Messenger of Allah said, (The Hellfire
complained to its Lord and said, “O Lord! Some parts of me devour other parts of me.” So He
(Allah) permitted it to take two breaths: one breath in the winter and one breath in the summer.
Thus, the most severe cold that you experience in the winter is from its cold, and the most
severe heat that you experience in the summer is from its heat. )
In the Two Sahihs it is recorded that he said, (When the heat becomes intense pray the prayer
when it cools down, for indeed the intense heat is from the breath of Hell.)
Surah Adiyaat
The main theme or subject matter is to make people realize how evil a person can become when
he denies the akhirah (afterlife). It also warns that in the Hereafter not only the visible and
apparent will be evaluated, but the secrets hidden in their hearts too will be subjected to
scrutiny.

Surah Az Zilzal
Madni surah, 8 verses
Summary. The surah begins by describing how on the Day of Judgment, the Earth will give off a
terrible earthquake and "throw up her burdens". Through the inspiration of God, the Earth will
bear witness to the actions of men it has witnessed.
Objectives:
o To serve as a reminder of the purpose of life.
o To recognize the reality of the Day of Judgement.
‘It will not come till you see ten signs: the smoke, Dajjal, the beast, the rising of the sun from the
West, the descent of Jesus, the Gog and Magog, the sinking of land in three locations, the East,
the West, and in Arabia, followed by a huge fire which would begin in Yemen and drive people
to their place of assembly.
The human beings left after the earthquakes and eruptions will cry in horror as they see before
their eyes graves upturned and their contents poured out. Madly they will ask themselves and
those around them,
‘What in the world is going on?’ Those who will remain towards the end of the world will be the
most corrupt and degenerate of humanity as the Prophet said,
‘The Last Hour will not come except upon the most evil of mankind.’
No matter how insignificant and small an act of good or evil may be, it has to be recorded by the
angels of the right and left. On that Day, complete records will be presented before us. That’s
why we should not consider any deed to be of no value, but we should strive to accomplish all
good we can do as it won’t be lost or forgotten. Prophet Muhammad said,
‘Don’t scorn any form of good, do it even if it is only meeting your brother with a smiling face.’
Surah Bayyina
Al-Bayyina or The Evidence (Arabic: البينة, al-bayyinah, aka "The Clear Proof") is the 98th Chapter
(surah) of the Qur'an, with 8 verses.
Theme
Surah it has been explained why it was necessary to send a Messenger along with this Holy
Book.
o First of all, the need of sending a Messenger has been explained.
o Then, about the errors of the followers of the earlier Books.
o From this also it automatically follows that the followers of the earlier scriptures,
straying from this true religion, have added extraneous things to it, which are false, and
Allah's this Messenger has come to invite them back to, the same original faith.
In conclusion, it has been pointed out clearly that the followers of the earlier Books and the
idolaters who would refuse to acknowledge this Messenger are the worst of creatures: their
punishment is an everlasting Hell; and the people who would believe and act righteously and
would spend life in the world in awe of God, are the best of creatures: their reward is eternal
Paradise wherein they will live forever. Allah became well pleased with them and they became
well pleased with Allah.

Surah Qadr
Al-Qadr (Arabic: القدر, "Power, Fate") is the 97th chapter (sūrah) of the Qur'an, with 5 verses.
Ibn Abbas and others have said, “Allah sent the Quran down all at one time from the Preserved
Tablet (Al-Lawh Al-Mahfuz) to the House of Might (Baytul-Izzah), which is in the heaven of this
world. Then it came down in parts to the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam)
based upon the incidents that occurred over twenty-three years.”
The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months.
Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said, “When Ramadan would come, the Messenger of
Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam) would say,
“Verily the month of Ramadan has come to you all. It is a blessed month, which Allah has
obligated you all to fast. During it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed
and the devils are shackled. In it, there is a night that is better than one thousand months.
Whoever is deprived of its good, then he has truly been deprived”
Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa Sallam) said,
“Whoever stands (in prayer) during the Night of Al-Qadr with faith and expecting a reward (from
Allah), he will be forgiven for his previous sins.” [Fath Al-Bari 4:294, and Muslim 1:253]
Meaning, the angels descend in abundance during the Night of Al-Qadr due to its abundant
blessings. The angels descend with the descending of blessings and mercy, just as they descend
when the Quran is recited, they surround the circles of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and they
lower their wings with true respect for the student of knowledge.

Surah Ad-Dhuha
Meaning of name: the morning brightness
Surah number 93, 11 verses
Main topic: The Hereafter is better for Prophet Muhammad Than the First, Do Mercy On Others
As God Did On you.
Most likely was among the first ten surahs to be revealed
Traditions tell that this was same sort of interval when for a period of time, the revelations
stopped. The unbelievers mocked Prophet Muhammad saying that “Muhammad’s Lord has
abandoned him.”
Imam Ahmad recorded from Jundub that, “The Prophet became ill, so he did not stand for
prayer for a night or two. Then a woman came and said, ‘O Muhammad! I think that your devil
has finally left you.’” That woman was the wife of abu jahal
At this stage, this Surah [Ad-Duha] was revealed as an assurance that your Lord has neither
forsaken you, nor is He displeased with you.
Lessons
Sometimes breaks and pauses are necessary to freshen up one’s self and focus better. But this
does not mean that one becomes lackadaisical and loses all his enthusiasm to study or worship.
There has to be a balance.
One should have good opinion of Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala and never think that He has
burdened us more than we can handle.
The life of hereafter is better than the life of this world because in the hereafter
There is reward for every hardship that one patiently bears.
he people that we meet in our lives, the places that we visit are all provisions from Allah
subhanahu wa ta`ala.
The one who depends on Allah will never be depressed.
Just like Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala has been kind towards us, we should be affectionate towards
other people and do them good.
When Allah subhanahu wa ta`ala gifted us with the blessing of knowledge we shouldn’t hide it.

Surah Layl
Meaning of surah: The Night
Surah number: 92, contains 21 verses
One of the first ten to be revealed in Mecca.
Main Topic:
o It contrasts two types of people, the charitable and the miserly, and describes each of
their characteristics.
o God Eases The Way Of Those Who Believe In Good, And Those Who Disbelieve In Good,
In Their Way Is Adversity.
o Verse 1-3: Swear By Night, Day And By He Who Created Male & Female
o Verse 4: Efforts Of People Are Diverse
o Verse 5-10: God Eases The Way Of Those Who Believe In Good And Facilitates Them In
Their Good, And Those Who Disbelieve In Good, In Their Way Is Adversity
o Verse 11-21: Warning Of Fire, Saved Will Be The Ones Who Give Wealth To Purify
Themselves And Not For Getting Some Favor
Background:
This Surah was revealed in Mecca most probably in a later stage of Prophet Muhammad’s
preaching in Mecca when persecution had become severe.
Surah tells us about the two ways of life and the consequences of both ways.
Narration in Bukhari: While we were sitting with the Prophet of God PBUH who had a stick with
which he was scraping the earth, he lowered his head and said, “There is none of you but has his
place assigned either in the Fire or in Paradise.” Thereupon a man from the people said, “Shall
we not depend upon this, O Prophet of God?” The Messenger of Allah said, “No, but carry on
and do your deeds, for everybody finds it easy to do such deeds (as will lead him to his place).”
Nasai recorded a narration from Jabir that Muadh prayed a prayer and a man came and
followed him in the prayer. Muadh made the prayer long, so the man went and prayed alone at
the side of the Mosque. When Muadh was informed of this, he said, “He is a hypocrite.” Then
Muadh informed the Prophet of God PBUH of what happened. The Prophet then asked the man,
and he replied, “Prophet of God PBUH! I came to pray with him, but he made the prayer too
long for me. So I left him and prayed at the side of the Mosque. Then I went to feed my she
camel.” The Prophet of God PBUH then said, Are you causing trouble O Muadh? Why don’t you
recite Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High, By the sun and its brightness, By the dawn,
and By the night as it envelops.
The Prophet of God PBUH said that the reward of reciting this Surah is so much that the one
who recites it will be pleased when he sees it in his Book of Deeds. Reciting it in the Night
prayers carries the reward of reciting almost a quarter of the Quran and is guaranteed that the
prayers will be accepted. His inspiration for good deeds will also increase. If recited fifteen
times before sleeping, one will dream about what pleases him most.
If you recite Surah Lail would receive from Allah gifts and benefits which would please him very
much; all his worries and hardships would disappear; Allah would make him self-sufficient and
well-to-do.

Surah Al Balad
Meaning of name: the city
90 surah, 20 verses
Topic:
The main subject or theme of this chapter is to show us the two paths Muslims can take. They
are given the choice to drive either on the highway of good or evil. Allah tells us he has given us
the ability and intelligence to judge right from wrong and that we will ultimately reap our own
destiny.
o Verse 1-5: Allah Swears By The City Where Muhammad Lives, And By Father And Its
Progeny, We Created Man Into Hardship, Does he think that never will anyone
overcome him?
o Verse 6-10: God Created Man And Shown Him Two Ways
o Verse 11-16: Man Avoid The Difficult Path I.E Freeing Of Slave, Feeding Poor And Helping
The Needy
o Verse 17-20: Traits Of Companions Of Right Hand And Companions of Left Hand
This world is not the place of real rest and comfort. It is not a place where man will live forever
and enjoy life, but here he has been created into labor and struggle. Here is the test of human
beings to do good deeds, and then the final judgment will be in the Hereafter. Each person is
granted with two different paths, one towards the right, the other towards the wrong, and each
individual is able to exercise free will by choosing his own path.
That Imam Ahmad narrated from Sa`id bin Marjanah that he heard Abu Hurayrah saying that the
Messenger of Allah said,
Whoever frees a believing slave, Allah will free for every limb (of the slave) one of his limbs from
the Fire. This is to such an extent that He (Allah) will free a hand for a hand, a leg for a leg, and a
private part for a private part.
That in a Hadith that was collected by Imam Ahmad on the authority of Salman bin Amir who
said that he heard the Messenger of Allah say,
Charity given to the poor person is counted as one charity, while if it is given to a relative it is
counted as two: charity and connecting the ties (of kinship).
Whoever has three children born to him in Islam, and they die before reaching the age of
puberty, Allah will enter him into Paradise by virtue of His mercy to them. And whoever grows
gray in the way of Allah (fighting Jihad), then it will be a light for him on the Day of Judgement.
And whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah (fighting Jihad) that reaches the enemy,
whether it hits or misses, he will get the reward of freeing a slave. And whoever frees a believing
slave, then Allah will free each of his limbs from the Fire for every limb that the slave has. And
whoever equipped two riding animals in the way of Allah (for fighting Jihad), then indeed
Paradise has eight gates, and Allah will allow him to enter any of them he chooses.”
Abu Basir transmitted from Imam al-Sadiq ()عليه السالم
If a person recites Sura al-Balad in the obligatory prayers, he will come to be known in this world
as righteous and in the Afterlife as having a special position before Allah, and he will be a
companion of the prophets, martyrs, and righteous people.”
Ubayyd b. Ka’b transmitted from the Prophet ()صلى هللا عليه وعلى آله وسلم
If a person recites Sura al-Balad, Allah will secure him from His Anger on the Day of Judgment,
and he will survive the hard passages of the Afterlife.
Surah Al-Fajr
Meaning of name: The Dawn
Surah 89, 30 verses
Topic:
Example Of Previous Nations Because of Their Wrongdoings God Destroyed Them, Man’s
Behavior When God Favors or Tries Him, Description Of The Last Day.
o Verse 1-5: Swear By Dawn, Ten Nights, Even & Odd, And [by] the Night when it passes
o Verse 6-14: Example Of Previous Nations Of Thamud, Ad And Pharaoh, Because of Their
Wrongdoings God Destroyed Them
o Verse 15-20: When God Favors Man All Good But when He Tries Man He says God has

o Verse 21-30: Description Of The Last Day: Earth has been Pounded and crushed, Lord
has come and the angels, rank upon rank, That Day Most People Will Regret, But
Righteous Will Be Pleased
This Surah also describes the fate of non believers that they will be destroyed. It condemns
people who ignore the orphans and the poor. Those are also condemned who love their wealth
more than anything else. It was revealed while the persecution was being done on the people
who started embracing Islam.
Allah created everything perfectly.
Man starts to know about Allah by the reflection of His creation.
The night and the day are the examples of Allah greatness.
Allah made man more superior in knowledge than animals.
The man who lives without any thought about the Hereafter is meaningless as he no longer has
any aims left to live his life for.
The one who believes in Allah shall also believe in the Hereafter.
Hereafter is ever living, whereas this world is temporary.
No Muslim can disobey Allah except for those who disbelieve in Him.
Then, the attitude of people is described towards worldly things.
It also describes the relation between transgression and tyranny.
Allah ranks him the most who fears him the most.
The term Faith is defined.
The one who recites this Surah often, he will be accompanied by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) on
