MATHEMATICS”

I. NARRATIVE

Last March 14, 2022, Lanao del Norte Provincial Science and
Technology High School joined the annual celebration of International Day of
Mathematics with the theme “Mathematics Unites”. It was formally opened
with the singing of the National Anthem, a Prayer and an Opening Remark by
Mr. Chowelito Pagulayan, a Grade 10 Mathematics teacher. The participants
of the celebration, which was composed of learners (Grade 7- Grade 12),
teachers, and supportive parents were then enlivened as they grooved to the
dance music of “MathDali”.

As part of the unifying role of Mathematics, the LNPSTHS IDM Working


Committee also put forward different curriculum enrichment activities as well
as advocacy activities for all of the participants. These were all realized as the
program progressed. After the opening program, a Forum Workshop was
conducted at the school hall to lighten the learners’ impressions of the
subject, Mathematics along with the current situation we are facing- the Covid
19, strict health protocols, and the new normal of our education system. This
was led by the three warhorses in Mathematics, Mr. Elizardo Cabo, Mr. Joe
Art Pague and Mrs. Jocelyn Manosa. Among the topics that were discussed in
the Forum Workshop were “Good Study Habits'', “Techniques in Learning
Math'', and “Pi Day: A Math History''.

To accentuate the essence of the International Day of Mathematics,


simultaneous activities were held for our invited participants in the afternoon
session. The teachers and supportive parents joined the Global Online
Celebration, a feature of short talks that were streamed online via IDM
facebook page. They were gathered at the Grade 7 section Kepler classroom
to keep company among the stakeholders to map out the significance of the
event and adhere to the public awareness of Mathematics as our common
language that we all have and to find one another.

On the other hand, the learners were gathered at the school hall to join
the different interactive competitions. Among the competitions were Team
Quiz Bee, Tessellation, Poster Making, and Photography. The learners were
not only showcasing their intelligence in Mathematics and creativity in
presenting their outputs for the different competition but most of all how they
were able to unite and work collaboratively with their schoolmates which they
haven’t experienced for the last two years due to the pandemic. For them, the
pedestal to their success was of how they were able to work hand in hand
with their teammates.
The most awaited moment of the celebration came next which was the
awarding of the winners for the different competition as well as the giving of
certificate of participation to all who participated in the said event. The
learners were also surprised as the School Information Team distributed free
school material kits to each one of them as a symbol of gratitude for their
support to the event. Smiles and enjoyment on the faces of the participants
were evidence that they really enjoyed the activities and were looking forward
to having more activities like this.
