Service Derivatives
Solid Wastes are usually organic in nature and are composed of rotten
vegetables, meat, fish and bone trimmings from slaughter houses and meat
processing plants. Also included in solid wastes are plant trimmings from
landscaping and agricultural activities. Some companies do not have the space for
and logistics resource to facilitate the disposal of the wastes. Other is mandated by
international laws that require them to produce compost from these wastes as part
of their corporate social responsibilities. Solid wastes are processed through
rendering, composting and thermal treatment.
Wastewater Septage is mostly human excrements and urine collected in
septic tanks and mobile latrine facilities. Municipal codes restrict the disposal of
these wastes hence the requirement to process them prior to reintroduction to the
environment. Septage is conventionally treated using a sewerage treatment facility
that breakdown excrement and chemical components of the waste using siltation,
filtration, degradation and neutralization. Other liquid wastes belonging in this
category are waste inorganic chemicals, organic solvents and other toxic liquids
such as dyes, inks and paints.
Wastewater Treatment is a process to convert wastewater into – which is
water no longer suitable for its most recent use – into an effluent that can be either
returned to the water cycle with minimal environmental issues or reused. The latter
is called water reclamation and implies avoidance of disposal by use of treated
wastewater effluent for various purposes. Treatment means removing impurities
from water being treated; and some methods of treatment are applicable to both
water and wastewater. The physical infrastructure used for wastewater treatment
is called a
“Wastewater Treatment Plant” (WWTP).
Acceptable impurity concentrations may vary with the type of use or location
of disposal. Transportation costs often make acceptable impurity concentrations
dependent upon location of disposal, but expensive treatment requirements may
encourage selection of a disposal location on the basis of impurity concentrations.
Water bodies entirely within the jurisdiction of a single area may be subject to
regulations of multiple local governments. Acceptable impurity concentrations may
vary widely among different jurisdictions for disposal of wastewater to evaporation
ponds, infiltration basins or injection wells.
