3. Verify that the pins on the CPU cable are aligned and connect the cable to the keyboard
port on the back of the CPU.
Postrequisite Perform the following procedures after installing the bar code
scanner:
1. Power on the SCC.

Installation, page 13
If the bar code scanner on the system is beige and has a part number that begins with 96539,
an Abbott Laboratories representative must replace the scanner when the central processing unit
(CPU) of the system control center (SCC) is not located on the SCC cart.
Legend:
1. Part number location
If the bar code scanner on the system is black and has a part number that begins with 206835,
the operator can replace the scanner.
Perform this procedure to replace the bar code scanner.
1. Insert a paper clip or pushpin into the cable release hole on the side of the bar code
scanner handle.
2. Push in the paper clip or pushpin and pull out the CPU cable.
3. Remove the paper clip or pushpin from the cable release hole.
4. Insert the CPU cable into the new bar code scanner.
5. Firmly press the CPU cable until it clicks.
Postrequisite Perform the following procedures after replacing the bar code
scanner:
1. Power on the SCC.
2. Start up the processing module and/or sample handler.

NOTE: This procedure is only for systems with ARCHITECT System software version 9.20 and
higher and only for handheld bar code scanner models 1300g and 3800g.
Perform this procedure to modify the Code 128 configuration of the bar code scanner to
interpret ISBT 128 bar code types.
NOTE: Code 128 symbology remains enabled even when it is not used.
The default read of ISBT bar codes processes all 16 characters in the Code 128 – ISBT Bar
Code Label. Enabling the following configuration causes the leading = sign and the two flag
characters at the end to be removed from the Code 128 – ISBT Bar Code as it is read by the
handheld bar code scanner.
NOTE: For each step, an extended tone confirms that the bar code scanner was configured
successfully. If the scanner was not configured successfully (no tone), repeat starting with the
first bar code.
To enable this reading modification to the ISBT bar codes, scan the following three bar codes in
order.

When a checksum is used and the pre-checksum SID contains an even number of digits, the
addition of the checksum digit on the right side of the human-readable section of the bar code
results in an odd number of digits. Then, a zero is added on the left side of the bar code, which
results in an even number of digits.
Configuration Value
Checksum used but The value of Code Length #1 and Code Length #2 are
not sent to the system determined by the number of pre-checksum SID digits. Each
value does not include the checksum digit and has an odd
number of digits.
Checksum used and The values of Code Length #1 and Code Length #2 are
sent to the system determined by the total number of SID digits. Each value
includes the checksum digit and has an even number of
digits.
Perform this procedure to modify the I 2 of 5 configuration of the bar code scanner.
NOTE: For each step, an extended tone confirms that the bar code scanner was configured
successfully. If the scanner was not configured successfully (no tone), repeat the step.
1. Scan one of the following bar codes to disable or enable the I 2 of 5 symbology.
