Section 2 Sample bar code configuration

NOTE: This procedure is only for systems with ARCHITECT System software version 9.20 and
higher and only for handheld bar code scanner models 1300g and 3800g.
Perform this procedure to modify the Code 128 configuration of the bar code scanner to
interpret ISBT 128 bar code types.
NOTE: Code 128 symbology remains enabled even when it is not used.
The default read of ISBT bar codes processes all 16 characters in the Code 128 – ISBT Bar
Code Label. Enabling the following configuration causes the leading = sign and the two flag
characters at the end to be removed from the Code 128 – ISBT Bar Code as it is read by the
handheld bar code scanner.
NOTE: For each step, an extended tone confirms that the bar code scanner was configured
successfully. If the scanner was not configured successfully (no tone), repeat starting with the
first bar code.
To enable this reading modification to the ISBT bar codes, scan the following three bar codes in
order.

Modify the Interleaved 2 of 5 (I 2 of 5) configuration

Required module Stopped, Warming, or Ready

status
For the ARCHITECT System, the Interleaved 2 of 5 (I 2 of 5) symbology uses primary and
secondary bar code lengths. Therefore, both Code Length #1 and Code Length #2 must be
configured. The I 2 of 5 symbology is a paired symbology that has an even number of digits,
including the checksum. Each bar code length must be from 2 digits through 20 digits with an
incremental value of 2 digits.
The default bar code lengths are 8 digits for Code Length #1 and 10 digits for Code Length #2.
The configuration defines the length of the bar code, including checksums that are used, and
has an even number of digits. The human-readable section of the bar code may display only an
odd number of digits because of the assumption that one or more digits are used in the bar code
scanner checksum configuration.
When a checksum is used and the pre-checksum sample ID (SID) contains an odd number of
digits, the addition of the checksum digit on the right side of the human-readable section of the
bar code results in an even number of digits.

ARCHITECT System Bar Code Scanner User's Guide 27

Configuration
Sample bar code configuration Section 2

When a checksum is used and the pre-checksum SID contains an even number of digits, the
addition of the checksum digit on the right side of the human-readable section of the bar code
results in an odd number of digits. Then, a zero is added on the left side of the bar code, which
results in an even number of digits.
Configuration Value
Checksum used but The value of Code Length #1 and Code Length #2 are
not sent to the system determined by the number of pre-checksum SID digits. Each
value does not include the checksum digit and has an odd
number of digits.

Checksum used and The values of Code Length #1 and Code Length #2 are
sent to the system determined by the total number of SID digits. Each value
includes the checksum digit and has an even number of
digits.

Perform this procedure to modify the I 2 of 5 configuration of the bar code scanner.
NOTE: For each step, an extended tone confirms that the bar code scanner was configured
successfully. If the scanner was not configured successfully (no tone), repeat the step.
