ABSTRACT

My SIP project is Student’s perception for Selection of Company . Student’s

perceptions are very important for the Placement point of view because students are the one
side of coin when we talk about Placements.

In my research project, I have studied Student’s perception by graphical method of

quantitative research. From the collected responses and graphical analysis I came to know that
BKSPMS Placement Cell is doing great at Placements and trainings for the students. Though,
it lacks in some key areas which needs to improve. Detailed description, findings and
recommendations are mentioned in the report.

INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW OF INTERNSHIP

The Placement Cell plays a crucial role in locating job opportunities for Under Graduates and
Post Graduates passing out from the college by keeping in touch with reputed firms and
industrial establishments. The Placement Cell operates round the year to facilitate contacts
between companies and graduates. The number of students placed through the campus
interviews is continuously rising. On invitation, many reputed industries visit the institute to
conduct interviews.

BKSPMS Placement Cell is to guide students to choose right career and to give knowledge,
skill, and aptitude and meet the manpower requirements of the Industry. Placement cell is
always on the lookout for students who are vibrant, energetic individuals and ready to accept
challenges, attentive, a good academic background, fast learners, open to learning even at work
and more importantly, good communication skills. it has been successful in maintaining our
high placement statistics over the years and the fact that our students bear the recession blues
with record breaking placements itself is a testimony to our quality.

The Placement Cell organizes training programs like Mock Interviews, Group Discussions, and
Communication Skills Workshop. It also invites HR Managers from different industries to
conduct training programs for final year student.

Objective of BKSPMS Placement Cell

The main objective of training and Placement cell is to provide career related support to the
students with special emphasis on training the students on employability skills and ultimately
provide placement in various Industries/Organizations by arranging campus recruitment
drives.

• Create awareness among students regarding available career options and help them in
identifying their career objectives.
• Guide the students in developing skills and job-search strategies required to achieve
their career objectives.
• Identify suitable potential employers and help them achieve their hiring goals.
• Organize activities concerning career planning.
• Act as a bridge between students, alumni and employers.
• Take feedback from industry and provide inputs for curriculum.

BKSPMS pg. 10
How Placement Drive happens :
Step 1:
E-mail from Company:

First Gujarat University communicates with the company about their requirements and
qualifications of students, salary package, Job Profile and their any other special requirements
through telephonic conversation and formal mail.

Step 2:
A short descriptive Letter of Placement Opportunity :

In the next step, after getting confirmation of Placement officer and company we draft a short
descriptive Letter of Placement Opportunity highlighting the company’s name, Profile,
Package, Qualification and their special requirements with one registration link in it.

Step 3:
Communicate the information with candidates :

In this step, From our student data, we forward this letter via mail to respective students who
fall under the company’s eligibility criteria to inform them about that opportunity.
Students who are interested, registered their selves in the Google link and from that link we get
the number of candidates who wants to apply for that job profile.

We spread this information about opportunity to reach maximum number of students through
different means of communication like,

• Calling to affiliated colleges

• Post on Gujarat University Website
• Post on Gujarat University Placement Cell website
• One to one marketing
• Social media marketing

Step 4:
Start accepting responses for interview and Scheduling the interview:

After the promotion and getting maximum responses, Company and Placement cell decides the
time and venue of Interview. After deciding final schedule, it will be sent to student who
registered their selves with us for the placement drive.
Details of interested students had been sent to the company for their reference.

BKSPMS pg. 11
Step 5:
Follow up after the interview:
After the interview Placement cell has to take follow up from Students and Companies as well.
How many students appear for the interview? How many were shortlisted? How many were
selected? This kind of data BKSPMS Placement Cell maintains.

After the Placement Drive BKSPMS analyze the over all drive, Selected candidates, Rejected
Candidates, Reason for rejections and selections, Students’ as well as Company’s perception
and so many points to make next drive successful.

MANAGEMENT STUDENT’S PERCEPTION ON SELECTION OF
COMPANY FOR CAMPUS PLACEMENT

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

As today’s corporate world is full of responsibility for hiring new employees and maintaining
them. However, these is also needed for students perspective also. As, new world require the special
skills and some qualities. We have to assure the new age skills which is required for employment and
their perception also for company or employer . so that we can come to know that where the corporate
and an future employee which is today’s students have an communication or a thought gape.

This is very useful for the new opening corporates and for existing corporate also. by which they
can come to know the reasons of why their current employee and future employee might leave their
organisation. I have gone through many literature reviews of which one the CDI published “Students’
perceptions of education and employability: Facilitating career ,transition from higher education to
labour market” is being most useful for more clarification.

The corporate entity can decrease their employee turnover ratio as well as they can maintain their
employees also for a long duration. as the research provide the views on how the students think over
their employability and employment provider. Their may be argued that some employers have their self
belief and they won’t be going to accept the new beliefs. Such type of questions and thought gape can
be equalized by the research of students’ perception.

This research is mainly concerned with the area of students who are pursuing M.B.A. degree
and as they have a good taste of corporate world ,it will be very much beneficial to the companies
especially to them which has problem of high employee turn over ratio, retaining a new hired students
and communication gap.

(keywords :- students’ perception, employability, selection.)

BKSPMS pg. 18
CHAPTER 2: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

• Problem Statement:

Now a days majority students who are opting for company for
campus placement have confusion regarding the selection of company. As
the majority of the students favor company which provide better
opportunities, good package and a reputed company for their future
employment.

The research is required to identify the factors to be considered by

the students in the selection of the companies for placements and their
perceptions towards selection of the companies and the influence of the
factors like brand ,market presence , salary , good environment , company
policy and HR policy and the external factors like the colleagues or friends
who are working in the company already for the selection of the company
for placement in management field.

• Scope of the Research:

• It can help in improvising the training strategy

• It can be useful for effective Placement Drive

• It can be useful to know the better thinking of students regarding the

placements.

• We can predict the today’s trend for choosing the company for
placement.

• RESEARCH OBJECTIVES:-

The objectives of the research for students’ perception on selection of

company is as follows :-

• To study the perception of students towards campus placement.

BKSPMS pg. 19
• To study the students perception from the BKSPMS for the companies.

The above reasons are the basic reasons for which the research
is going to conduct . as it is very much helpful for the students as well as
company also.

• Hypothesis:

H1: pharma sector is less dominant compare to IT companies.

Hypothesis 6: impact comparison between medical allowance and the foreign

tours

BKSPMS pg. 20
H0 : the µ1 (impact of the medical allowance) < µ2 ( impact of the foreign tours).

H1: Null hypothesis is rejected.

Hypothesis 7: stability in company and expected years for working in one company

H0: there is more stability between 2 to 5 year in one job.

H1: there is less stability between 2 to 5 years in one job.

placements

H0: µ1 =µ2 =µ3 =µ4 ( linkedin , apna , newspaper, and website are equally play role in the
news spreading)

H1: µ1 ≠ µ2 ≠ µ3 ≠ µ4 (H0 is not accepted.)

• Research Tools and Methodology:

The objective of qualitative research is to gain a qualitative understanding of the

underlying reasons and motivations. It develops an initial understanding.

Research approach: Quantitative for a knowing the perspective of students about

perception for the placement and selection of the company.

Data Collection Method:

Primary data: The data was collected through the questionnaire circulated.

Sampling Size: 100 Responses from MBA Students.

Sampling Method : Convenience sampling

Tools For Analysis : Graphical Methods , tabular analysis, T-Test , Annova , chi-
square and Microsoft Excel.

Significance of the Study :

BKSPMS pg. 21
As we have seen earlier in the problem statement as well as in the
scope of the study that this research is mainly based on the students
perception for the selection of the company for the campus placements, it
is important to know that how the students are thinking for the company
and the process.
If there is something to be improved in the process that can also be
come out by this research . we can also come to know about how the
students have views on the placements and why for some company they
are ready even with the low package and for some they are not ready even
there is high package.

that would enable better understanding of factors related to these transition at more than
one level of analysis.

2. Fauzilah & MD Husain (2018) in his research noted that this qualitative English for
professionals students’ experience of the employment programme and their perception of he
relevance of the recruitment programme to their current and future courses and to their
future career choices. The findings in this study will try to fill the knowledge gap in students

academic environment also effect on their decision.

4. Michael P Sciarini & Robert H Woods (1997) noted that As today’s corporate world is full of
responsibility for hiring new employees and maintaining them. However, these is also needed
for students perspective also. As, new world require the special skills and some qualities. We
have to assure the new age skills which is required for employment and their perception also
for company or employer . so that we can come to know that where the corporate and an
future employee which is today’s students have an communication or a thought gape.

5. Andrew C Worthington & Helen Hi Higgs (2012) had clearly emphasised that This is very useful
for the new opening corporates and for existing corporate also. by which they can come to
know the reasons of why their current employee and future employee might leave their
organisation. I have gone through many literature reviews of which one the CDI published
“Students’ perceptions of education and employability: Facilitating career ,transition from
higher education to labour market” is being most useful for more clarification.

6. John Thomas murre (2016)researched for the perception he noticed that from the study of

employee turnover ratio as well as they can maintain their employees also for a long duration.
as the research provide the views on how the students think over their employability and
employment provider. Their may be argued that some employers have their self belief and
they won’t be going to accept the new beliefs.” Such type of questions and thought gape can
be equalized by the research of students’ perception.

8. As the research is mainly concerned with the area of students who are pursuing M.B.A. degree
and as they have a good taste of corporate world ,it will be very much beneficial to the
companies especially to them which has problem of high employee turn over ratio, retaining
a new hired students and communication gap.

are opened for perception study ,this will be useful in examining their perception.

11. Donald at el (2013) concluded that the literature stream also focuses on the need for careers
and lecturers to support students in securing placement opportunities and subsequently to
facilitate individual reflectin to maximise the value gained from the experience of study. The
creation of an ECTP plays a significant role in accessing and securing talent for the
organisation.

12. Jackson & Wilton (2015) noted that the beneficiaries of the talent pipeline are positioned as
the students and the university through employment outcomes and league table rankings .
the vocational behaviour literature also addresses the massification of higher education
participation and the need for a candidate to stand out from the crowd in a highly competitive
graduates market.

13. Mehzab nahid (2018) in her studies says that freshers are eager to learn and adapt to new
situations when they enter university ,whereas academic institution try to instill the work-
related skills when they are almost at the end of their courses works. Eventually if the students
get to see and experience the requirements of the industry from the very beginning of their
college life.

BKSPMS pg. 25
14. The wide variety of occupation requiring students awareness of their real possibilities and
careful consideration to their choice. To find the most interesting profession and occupations
desired by the students of the management field .choice of job satisfaction comes from a
realistic career decision and a through grounding in this regard.

influenced employees’ endorsement of their employer. Culture and values, and career
opportunities are the most significant variables in generating positive employee
recommendation. In addition, appearing in most attractive employer rankings also influenced
their recommendation. However, employer rankings lower than the median rank had no
effect on whether or not employees recommended their organizations.

have observed that The role of corporate brand and product brand in consumer decisions is
well documented in marketing literature. However, the application of these brands in human
resource management has received little attention. In this paper, we examine the relationship
between an organization's product brand and employer brand; and corporate brand and
employer brand.

RESULT:-

As in the first hypothesis we have supposed that students more prefer government job, but as
the t calculated value is 2.79 and the table value of the T-test is between 1.984 and the 2.626 . so, the
t-calculated value is higher than the upper limit of table value. So, H0 is rejected and the H1

So, we can say from the hypothesis that the survey shows that for MBA field students prefer
more private jobs compare to the government jobs.

students.
• They are very less preferred at the company knowledge and the General knowledge .
• The convincing and negotiation skill are also not that much given importance as it is the main
skills required for any management trainee after the communication skills.
• So, the students should be trained for the skills in which they are not so good as the Negotiation
power is the heart of sales trainee .
• And the convincing power is also required to handle the customer successfully these both skills
should not be ignored.

16) Any other support do you seek from the placement cell?

• As most of the students are facing the interview situation in very fast way, they are
demanding for some time or the list of the company that are going to come for interview.

• They are also demanding of the list of the companies process for placement and their
process ,so that they can decide that in which company they should apply.

• Some students are still required a special training of particular sector for example, if
someone is belongs from the finance background, then he is required a finance software of
investment related training.

• Some students are requested that they can not get the proper time to be ready for the
interview or any other stage of selection process, as the time duration between the form
filling and the interview date is very low.

BKSPMS pg. 51
Chapter 6: Summary of Findings

• Students are well equipped with the required skills but still some kind of skill enrichment is
required for same.
• Most of students all having the same perception as the current selection process and the
current companies possess.
• Still, some perception like stability, salary , working type and working related factors are
changing as per the current environment and trends.
• So, there is requirement of the changes in the corporate world as these students will become
the future employees of the companies.
• Some suggestions are best for the changes in the current selection process and the training as
per the survey of the report.
• Students are willing to do job more in private as well as the local jobs due to the attachment
to the locality of the motherland.
• Students are also willing to get the job which is international company which was established
in the metropolitan city area.
• Students are also not ready to accept the bonding period which is more than 2 year. And the
they are ready to pay amount of bonds which is for the 2 years.
• Students are preferring the international company only due to the good packages more
compare to the local companies.
• They are possessing the most of skills as required by the companies . so that , the companies
will not require the special training to be spend on the new employee.
• The new trend is also attached to the startup eco-system also as many of the students are also
selected for the job in the newly opened startups.
• As per the above conclusions, students are satisfied almost with the placement process and
the companies are also use this research report for the purpose of the come to know about
the students perception that how their mentality and thinking style is .
• According to this, they can take decision for hiring the new employees for the next couple of
years.

BKSPMS pg. 52
Chapter 7: Conclusion

➢ Suggestions:-

➢ As, per the survey shows, There is more requirement of the changes in the current
selection process .

➢ The skillset the students possess are less comparative to the required one . so, company
have to allot a more time on training new employees.

➢ Almost, half of the people, requires the good working environment,so there should be a
good working environment for them and good productivity.

➢ Students do not prefer the bonding period more than 2 years . so it would be better if the
bonding period should be of 2 years.

➢ Students have to focus on GD and Interview round more for getting job in a good
company.

➢ As, current trend focuses on not only salary perspective , but the current working
environment and work flexibility also matters a lot.

➢ In Non-monetary allowance, contrary to Abraham maslow’s Theory, students have their

self esteem and self actualization first.so, non-monetary rewards should be framed in
such a manner that it will give more moral boosting to the employees.

➢ Students are thinking that only communication part is matter for skills , but the
interpersonal convincing skills and negotiation and leadership skills are also necessary for
the managers or even an employee also.

➢ As the majority of the students had said that they prefer either completely work from
home or flexibility working hours more , in future company have to modify their timings
also. otherwise , employee turnover ratio will increase.

➢ Students are getting placement news more from either campus placement drive or the
linkedin . so, the placement news should be shared through this 2 platforms will give you
more responses.

➢ The survey emphasizes that the HR department of the company have the most influencing
ability to retain employee or to avail him to leave. So, it affects more in the development
of any employee and it should be well structured and organized.

BKSPMS pg. 53
➢ Scope for the further Research:

As there is a perception review on the students of the management field,

this research shows what the management students of the particular college thinks about
the selection of the company and it might be change according to the students’ fields or
either their environments.

Besides, as this research is slightly towards the students scenario ,there

are more scope or wide scope as we can do the same research for the students perception
that what they think about the company and their placement as it is very much helpful to
the companies which faces such kind of problems which can be easily solved by the survey
of the students. The one major concern is of the employee which is now students and
they will definitely become the future employee. So, company could know in advance that
how the new generation management students thinks about the company and the
placements.

Thus , there is wide scope for the research in the same field as students’
perception . A survey can be helpful for the other fellows also for their higher and deep
study as well as for the more research.

➢ Limitations:

• As this is students research , every points can not possible as this survey is on the
students’ perspective.
• There are more chances of wrong information will be provided by the students , as some
students are likely to fill the questionnaire just for the filling purpose.
• Sometimes the research also not provide a good conclusion as the input is wrong. Here,
in the factors affecting the job selection is same case.
• In factors , the other criteria had been ignored by the students, they have focused only
on the money factors.
• Some particular kind of information had particular applied test . so, all the test can not
be applied to the all information.
• Some questions have the more broad perspective , but as questionnaire has some own
limitations, all perspective cann’t be covered.
• As the questionnaire is time bounded , it can not contains broader perspective for the
all type of information.
• There are some opportunity loss also that can not be obtained due to the selection of
qualitative or quantitative research more.
