Assignment One
1. Discuss the ways humans obtain knowledge and describe their strengths and limitations
to arrive at valid conclusion by comparing and contrasting with the scientific method
2. Discuss the nature and characteristics of educational research and show how: conducting
research in education is considered as complex by comparing with other research areas
such as natural science and social sciences
3. Discuss the characteristics of each of the following research types by comparing and
contrasting in relation to the characteristics that make one different from the other under
the given category
 Historical research, Descriptive research and Experimental research
 Qualitative research and Quantitative research
 Basic research and Applied research
4. Take one school problem and preper an action Research proposal :
 the title of your research
 Clearly state the problem
 Write the Objective of the study
 Write your research Questions
 Indicate the sources of data
 Write the design of your study, sources of data, instruments of data collection and
methods of analyzing data
 Indicate Sampling methods and your Sample size
 Budget breakdown
 List down the reference materials you used

Action research Assignment Two
1. Discuss the characteristics and aims of action research and describe what makes action
research similar and different from basic research by giving examples
2. Discuss the nature and characteristics and the advantages and disadvantages of the
various data collection tools in action research
3. Describe the components and the criteria that are used to design of action strategies by
giving examples
4. Discuss why data collection is important after the action strategies have been
implemented
5. Discuss the importance of reflection in action research, techniques of reflection, and how
it can be used to develop the next action cycle
6. Suppose you have learned during reflection that you have not attained what you have
desired to achieve. Discuss the possible activities that you will do in such condition

Assignment Three
Identify one action research problem related to your day-to-day practice and:
 Write the title of your study (your title should be written by including: the
issue/problem and the objective of your research in terms of what you would like
to improve or change
 Write your justification i.e. why you have decided to select using the criteria
suggested to select a starting point in action research
 Critically describe your starting point by referring to, for instance, your
experience, the experience of others, what has been done by other researchers on
similar problems/issues
 Indicate the sources from which you have obtained data about the problem.
 Develop the instrument/s of data gathering
 Collect information from the possible sources, analyze and interpret the evidence,
write the knowledge you have gained, write the conclusions you have arrived at
and forward the likely solutions that you believe help you improve/change the
situation of the problem
 Based on the suggestions you have made develop an action strategy by listing
down the actions you intend to take. Here indicate: roles in each activity, duration
of each activity, ways of finding evidence about your intervention, expected
changes, etc.
 Justify your action strategy by describing how far it would help you to improve,
change etc. the situation, the extent to which it can be translated into practice as
well as the extent to which it will be acceptable by people who will be affected by
your intervention etc
