ATS1170 can be programmed to operate with one Wiegand or one magnetic stripe card
reader together with a simple Request-to-Exit push. The ATS1170 can hold up to 20 user
card numbers. For offline programming, DIP switch 'A' must be on - see page 9 for offline
programming.
✍ In online programming mode, DIP switch 'A' will have no effect. However, always
leave it in the ÒFF position. This switch is only ever used in the offline mode to
program cards. See page 9 for details.
Action Procedure
1. Setting the ATS1170 address. Using the DIP switch address (nearest the connector strip)

1. When the ATS1170 is online, cards can only be entered into the ATS1170’s on-board database by
programming via menu 10 (Learn Mode). When the ATS1170 is online, the on-board database is NOT
used for access control. Granting access is controlled by the control panel’s user database. The on-
board database is only used for access control when the ATS1170 loses communication with the
control panel, or when permanently offline mode.
2. DIP switch A on ATS1170 has no effect in the online mode. However, it should be left in the OFF
position. This switch is only used in the offline mode to program cards. Refer to page 10 for offline
mode card programming.
3. Normal door operations are performed in the programming mode. When programming cards in online
mode, normal door access control functions apply. So if a user is valid, the access granted is given
even though you are programming the card into the on-board database.
4. One short beep is sounded by a Wiegand card reader each time a card is badged, in addition to the
number of beeps listed in the programming instructions. The first beep is generated by the Wiegand
card reader to indicate that it has read the card.
b. Time out. After four minutes of no use while in the ATS1170 menu.
If the control panel fails or the communication between the control panel and the
ATS1170 fails, the ATS1170 can continue operating as a stand-alone unit with its own
power supply. In this offline mode, cards programmed in the ATS1170 ‘s on-board
database will be used to determine access control, while those cards stored in the control
panel database cannot be used.
Action Procedure
1. Initial connections Connect the 12 VDC power supply, the card reader and
Request-to-Exit buttons (if required) as described in this
manual. Ten seconds after power-up, the Tx LED flashes once
per second to indicate that the ATS1170 is operating. This flash
rate indicates that the ATS1170 is in offline mode with no
connection to the control panel databus.
2. Card format and card type Set DIP switch C to the OFF position for Wiegand format and
ON position for magnetic stripe format.
