The
Original
The University of Liverpool is the original 'red brick'
university, and its prestigious past is reflected in the
present. It's a university with a fantastic reputation
for research and science, and a Liverpool degree
will undoubtedly take you far.

The UK has a number of prestigious red brick universities, but there is only
one original: the University of Liverpool. In fact, the term 'red brick' was
first used by a professor at Liverpool and is a reference to the University's
Victoria Building.

But what is a red brick university? These institutions were founded in the
1800s to open up higher education to more of the public, and to provide a
practical education for a quickly modernising workforce. That means that
the University of Liverpool has been imparting knowledge for well over
100 years!

This idea of providing a public service has been at the core of the
University's work ever since. Today, students come from all over
the world to study at Liverpool, attracted by its fantastic reputation and
location in the fashionable and friendly city of Liverpool. All this means you
can expect to enjoy a vibrant social life and fantastic student experience!

A big part of the University of Liverpool's success can be traced to its

decades-long emphasis on research. With state-of-the-art facilities and an
incredible amount of expertise at hand, the University carries out impactful
research across many disciplines. In fact, it has more than 2,000 active
research staff across 3 faculties.

The University's influential research feeds directly into its teaching and
degree programmes. This means, as a student, you'll benefit from being
close to ground-breaking projects and teaching from people at the
cutting edge of their fields. It's an exciting and innovative place to get an
education, but what else would you expect from the original?

Liverpool is a city alive with culture,
sport, history and music. The city has
been an important port in the north
of England for more than 200 years,
giving it long-standing exposure to the
wider world.

The spirit of
Liverpool
This history means that, over
the years, Liverpool has become
increasingly multicultural and
incredibly welcoming. In fact, it was
named the UK's second friendliest
city in the 2021 Conde Nast Traveller
Readers' Choice Awards!

Open-mindedness and diversity are

reflected in Liverpool's vibrant arts
scene, and the city is particularly
famous for its music. Everyone
knows about The Beatles, who are
considered local heroes. But musicians
from Liverpool have produced 56 UK

Clearly, there is plenty to see and

It's impossible to come to Liverpool

Meet
Marina
Marina
from Russia
Marina came from Russia to study at the
International College, and progressed to
a degree in Business Management at the
University of Liverpool.

I wanted to study Business Management because I want to

open my own business. And I chose Liverpool because I’d
already visited this city and I really loved it. I had a choice between
Manchester and Liverpool, and I was like, “No, I want to be here!”

I just love England and Liverpool, especially because there

are a lot of beautiful places. I’ve been to a lot of parks and
museums, and there are so many cool things: the people, and the
food, everything! It was easy for me to make new friends because
everybody was friendly.

While at the College, the staff members and the people who
studied around me helped me a lot. That was the most important
thing to me, that I had really good support from them. I had some
great times with classmates, and even some members of staff!

Studying at the College was the best experience I’ve ever had.
I still want to go back there — the staff there are amazing and
everybody helped me. The course helped me a lot, and it
prepared me because I didn’t know anything about Economics
or Business.

My advice to students considering studying in the UK would

be, first of all, don’t be scared. I was so scared — I was panicking
about everything. But it’s a great chance to study abroad and
experience something new.

And don't be scared to make friends! A lot of people are trying

to find the same nationality to be with them, but I think that’s a
huge mistake. You have to talk to everyone, and enjoy the time
you have together.

This is my path so far.
