Introducing and greeting someone are the first thing we say to


someone or meet someone new. In this English lesson you will learn how to
greet, introduce, and say good bye to a person. The first part of the lesson
shows how to greet, introduce and say goodbyes in a formal manner the
part of the lesson shows how to do it in an informal way.

Formal and informal

Formal is more polite and also if you don't know the person.

In formal is used when talking to friends only!

EVERYDAY GREETINGS

"Good morning."
"Good afternoon."
"Good evening."
"Goodbye."

SHAKING HANDS

When meeting someone formally for the first time, we shake their
hand and say "How do you do?" or "Pleased to meet you."

"How do you do?" isn't really a question, it just means "Hello".


You say hello, and I say goodbye!

Follow the dialogue.

Mr Bean meets Mrs Breuer, one of his students, and her


husband in the street.

Mr Bean: Good morning, Mrs Breuer.

Mrs Breuer: Good morning, Mr Bean. How are you?

Mr Bean: I'm fine thanks, and you?
