1.1 Job Analysis

1.1.1 Summary

My name is Yuran Huang, and I am a student in University of Canberra now. I am

undertaking a postgraduation program in IT and preparing for my professional career after

the completion of this program. In my daily life I would like to use the analytical mindset to

solve the small questions I have met. Also, the human spirit is another important role in my

concepts. When considering some kind of products in Industry, I will thin of the convenience

and the social influence on the public.

For my ideal professional position at graduation, the work content and environment is of

most important. Due to my spirit of discovery, I would like to take a job full of challenges

and satisfaction. Some position only including tedious and repetitive work is not suitable for

me. Also, the working environment is extremely crucial, for it may greatly affect the

efficiency. A better atmosphere in the workplace will have a effect on the work type and the

working will. A company with a friendly culture and comfortable working environment is

more likely to produce more beneficial products to the society.

1.1.3 Strengths

In my own experience, maybe with a little boast, I am very good at overcome challenges and

make creative thinking. For example, I can try to use a kind of computer programming

language I’ve never met before to realize an important function in a week. Overcoming

unpredicted obstacles lets me feel pleasure and helps me improve my skills and techniques in

return.

Also, I can combine my creative thinking together with the actual function in my work. For

instance, a concept in math like the prime number concept may be used to generate random

numbers. The cross knowledge in different subjects and the creative mindset may be one of

my strengths to compete with others in the career position.

1.2 Skills Analysis

1.2.1 Self-Analysis

Situation: In my previous role as an intern of a network engineer, I had the mandate to

collect necessary information and provide extra work subject to the post assigned to me

during the internship.

Task: The goal was to respond swiftly to clients and establish innovative and creative

insights to deliver ideal program designs and other special requirements like necessary

adjustments to programs.

Action: In order to achieve my mandate, I had to carefully manage my time, be enthusiastic

about my position, show respect regardless of the situation, and tap into my knowledge of

programming. So, I blocked off any form of distraction when at work, such as my

smartphone, to dedicate my time solely to answering incoming telephone calls and taking

down messages and the provided information. In some cases, the callers would not express

the same level of respect I accorded them, but I understood that as part of the job hence

maintaining a high level of kindness towards them. During that time, I duly worked on

delivering clerical support accompanied by sorting and organizing reports. I equally helped

out with programming tasks; thus, I designed and implemented a unique project. Undertaking

the tasks helped me grow as a professional and learned how to deliver on vast tasks.

Result: As a result, my internship was a success, with a notable mention of the management

recognition I received for designing and implementing a unique project.

Therefore, I currently have soft skills such as problem-solving, self-motivation, perseverance,

a sharp memory, and communication. On the other hand, I have technical skills such as CNC

programming, program development and implementation, social program implementation,

technical writing, software proficiency, project management, and data analysis.

1.2.2 Skill Gap Analysis


I need to acquire teamwork and flexibility skills and improve my technical writing,

programming, and data analysis skills to get the Job in the Real Job Advertisement. The job

requires sufficient technical and soft skills working together to deliver on specific tasks,

working with teams and providing creative insights to help achieve stipulated tasks. I lack the

teamwork and the high level of flexibility that the job demands. However, I possess technical

writing, programming, and data analysis skills that the job demands, but there is room for

improvement considering their essentialness to the Job in the Real Job Advertisement. I will

get the skills by active involvement in mock tasks such as team-building efforts and any task

that would ensure I step out of my comfort zone for the soft skills. On the other hand, for the

technical skills that I require to revamp, I will ensure they improve by conducting extensive

research, doing systematic studies as a reminder, and doing more practice. I will monitor the

improvement by running practical tests from the internet and using observation to see how

much I have gained on issues such as collaboration and know-how, subject to comparing

results from one point to the next. Therefore, if all goes well, I would have earned the sought

skills and revamped the ones that I already possess but require improvement to get the Job in

the Real Job Advertisement.

I will continue learning on teamwork and bolster my IT information set through active

participation within groups and meeting university milestones on specific tasks. I will equally

participate in professional examinations provided by professional ICT bodies to test my

improvement on learning. The results will gauge whether my efforts are working or not.

area. When facing a situation like promoting a network product, I would like to use the

network advertisement with some promotional information in applications to make more

people of it. Also, I understand the basic principles of marketing and tools to monitor the

activities of the market.

The Australian Computer Society, ACS Code of Professional Conduct v2.1 (Published by

ACS), has “Primacy of the Public Interest,” “Enhancement of Quality of Life,” “Honesty,”

“Competence,” “Professional Development;” and “Professionalism” as six tenets that guide

professional practice and ethical behavior. The provided table rates my performance in each,

accompanied by the rationale for the rating. I have the highest scores in all categories except

the “Primacy of the Public Interest.”

My professionalism dictates meeting assigned duties which makes me place business

interests before public interests. However, I am not selfish; hence public interests come

before personal interests leading to the rating posited in the table. I always follow the other

tenets, i.e. “Enhancement of Quality of Life,” “Honesty,” “Competence,” “Professional

Development,” and “Professionalism,” considering they are much-needed attributes to have a

successful career. Some I learned from working with others such as “Enhancement of Quality

of Life” and “Competence.” I equally learned some such as “Enhancement of Quality of

Life,” “Honesty,” and “Competence” from my upbringing and social interactions. I learned

“Professional Development” and “Professionalism” from providing labor services in different

capacities. However, “Professionalism” comes from my intrinsic commitment to meeting

organizational objectives and institutional upbringing. Therefore, there are social norms,

interactions on a personal and professional level, and working experience that inform the

depicted performance on “Primacy of the Public Interest,” “Enhancement of Quality of Life,”

“Honesty,” “Competence,” “Professional Development;” and “Professionalism.”

The presented graph provides rationale and examples that magnify my performance on

“Primacy of the Public Interest,” “Enhancement of Quality of Life,” “Honesty,”


“Competence,” “Professional Development,” and “Professionalism.” It shows my ethical and

professional expertise, which is close to perfection, subject to the high ratings. However, I

have a drawback subject to my professional practice, which places business interests before

public and personal interests leading to a low rating in the “Primacy of the Public Interest.”
2.3 Team Dynamics and Conflict Resolution

My group's teamwork was effective; however, there is room for improvement. Our group

worked effectively due to having ideal discussions facilitated by proper allocation of duties

and openness in providing ideas. However, the greatest challenge within the group involved

accommodating the diversity considering the uniqueness that everyone served.

Appropriate allocation of duties and openness facilitated the effectiveness of our group, while

the diversity presented a challenge to its success. We had an open session in our initial

meetings to allocate different tasks subject to members volunteering for the positions. After a

critical assessment and voting, members with appropriate skill sets and the intangibles for

specific positions earned their due spots. For example, members selected the team leader

based on proper communication and leadership skills. After assigning such roles, there were

assigned duties with every member having a task to perform. The established design and

structure met the intangibles for the team to succeed. Openness accompanied the design and

structure, which bolstered the team's efficiency. The team encouraged every individual to be

open in providing insights to help the team without judging or ridiculing any submission.

However, the team faced challenges in handling the diversity within the group. Every

individual was unique, leading to diverse feedback for performing specific tasks as

encouraged by the openness within the team. The condition presented a significant challenge

subject to multiple submissions for consideration which took much time to discuss and

resolve.

Therefore, although my group worked with high efficiency subject to meeting specific

intangibles necessary for group success, it faced the greatest challenge in accommodating the

diversity in the team. The group was highly efficient due to attributes like properly assigning

duties and encouraging innovative ideas through openness. However, the diversity within the
group accompanied by the encouraged openness produced a shortcoming for the efficiency

by facilitating vast ideas and untimeliness in resolving them.

On the other hand, the group recognized the need for ideal interactions with conflicts

derailing the processes such as discussions and project implementation. Despite efforts to

reduce conflicts, issues would come up from a personal and group level. Therefore, the team

worked well for conflict resolution due to proper channels of handling any dispute and the

established structure that limited conflicts from arising.

The group had proper channels and an ideal structure that helped conflict resolution. The

structure was proactive in conflict resolution. Every individual had specific tasks assigned to

them subject to volunteering and assessing intrinsic skill set. It increased the group's

efficiency and limited the instances of overlapping duties. Hence, reduced the chances of a lot

of conflicts. The openness encouraged within the group, whereby individuals offered their

input without fearing being ridiculed or judged equally, made the probability of conflict low.

However, despite the proactive measures for conflict resolution, isolated cases emerged. For

the arising conflicts, there were proper channels to handle them. A non-partisan committee

would listen to emerging issues and provide the way forward, which included the option for

disciplinary action. The efforts ensured conflict never got in the way of the team working

well.

Therefore, the team performed well on conflict resolution through proactive and reactive

measures in the structure accompanied by a design and established channels to resolve any

issues. The team worked well due to the lack of significant disputes, with isolated cases

handled swiftly and efficiently. The group encouraged the participation of every individual

and reduced chances for any conflict to arise due to proper allocation of duties.
I learned much when working with the group, especially my deficiency in perfect teamwork

skills. Similarly, I learned that when a team has an ideal structure and encourages the

involvement of everyone, it is highly likely to succeed and have every member satisfied for

playing a role in the success.


2.4 Critical Evaluation and Reflective Summary

According to Miller and Moores (2019), some principles of group work include planned

organization, recognizing the uniqueness of team members, equality, and understanding

relationships as a tool for solving group problems. Our group performed well due to

reflecting the mentioned principles. However, it was not perfect with recognizing the

uniqueness of team members serving as an advantage and a disadvantage. Despite the

shortcoming, the group structure and design accompanied by the methodology of assigning

and implementing tasks effectively captured the mentioned principles leading to success.

According to Haqaf and Koyuncu (2018), some of the critical skills required for an IT

professional include programming and data analysis. I have the fundamental skills for the

profession; however, there is room for improvement. I have other intangibles that back the

skills, and I can equally improve them for further success as an IT professional. Kurbanov et

al. (2020) posit that IT as a profession requires commitment, given it is a demanding job.

Students must seek appropriate knowledge and have positive perceptions to excel with IT

being a dynamic and challenging field (Kurbanov et al., 2020). I have the necessary

intangibles to succeed as an IT professional based on my professionalism, commitment, and

ethical practices. Therefore, I am well-equipped for success.
