What is Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist or known as Holy Mass?

 Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a
sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus,
who died for our sins. As we receive Christ’s Body and Blood, we
also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.
 The Eucharist is a very sacrifice of the Body and Blood of the
Lord Jesus which he instituted to perpetuate the sacrifice of the
cross throughout the ages until hi return in glory. Thus, he
entrusted to his Church this memorial of his death and
resurrection. It is a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a paschal
banquet, in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace,
and a pledge of future glory is given to me.
 Jesus instituted the Eucharist on Holy Thursday “the night on
which he was betrayed” (1Corinthians 11.23), as he celebrated the
Last Supper with his apostles.
 The celebrant of the Eucharist is a validly ordained priest
(bishop or priest) who acts in the Person of Christ the Head
and in the name of the Church.
 The essential and necessary elements for celebrating the
Eucharist are wheat bread and grape wine.
 Jesus Christ is present in the Eucharist in a unique and
incomparable way. He is present in a true, real and
substantial way, with his Body and his Blood, with his Soul
and his Divinity. In the Eucharist, therefore, there is present in a
sacramental way, that is, under the Eucharistic species of bread
and wine, Christ whole and entire, God and Man.
 Transubstantiation means the change of the whole substance
of bread into the substance of the Body of Christ and of the
whole substance of wine into the substance of his Blood. This
change is brought about in the Eucharistic prayer through the
efficacy of the word of Christ and by the action of the Holy Spirit.

Listen to a very short story:

One day, a young man came to Jesus. Jesus knew that this young
man was very rich. He also knew that the man had trained to be a
religious leader.
When the young man heard that Jesus wanted him to give up his
wealth, he became very sad. He lowered his head and turned away. He
knew deep down in his heart that he had not given God the first place in
his life. He was not willing to give up his riches to follow Jesus. So he
walked away, very sad.
Jesus added, “It will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom
of Heaven. Yes, believe Me, it is easier for a camel to go through of a needle
than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of Heaven.

 The followers of Jesus listen to His Words. They wonder why

it is not easy for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of
Heaven. They listen to Jesus’ explanation that many rich
people become too attached to their riches.
 By listening to Jesus, they learn that they do not need riches
or great power to go to heaven. What they need to do is to be
kind to the poor out of love for God.
 We, too, listen to Jesus’ Word. We listen to His Word at Holy
Mass during the Liturgy of the Word. This is the first part of
the Mass.

What is a commitment?
Commitment is an agreement or pledges to do something in the
future. It is said that the greatest action or commitment that we
can carry out on earth is to receive Jesus into our hearts, minds,
and souls in the Holy Communion.
**********************************************************************************
STRUCTURE and FORMAT of the EUCHARISTIC
CELEBRATION
The Holy Eucharist is composed of two main parts:
1. The Liturgy of the Word
2. The Liturgy of the Eucharist

The Liturgy of the Word is the part of the celebration of the Mass where
the Word of God is proclaimed and preached. This is the very important
part of the celebration. To nourish the faith of believers, the signs, which
accompany the Word of God, should be emphasized.
 The book of the Word – a lectionary
 Its veneration – procession, incense and candles
 The place of its proclamation – lectern or ambo
 Its clear reading CCC 1154
The Liturgical word and action are inseparable…”
CCC 1155
How do we show that we are listening carefully to God’s Word?
1. Keep quiet and pay attention.
2. Participate actively in the Mass
3. Put into practice the things learned in the Liturgy of the
Word.
The Liturgy of the Eucharist is the part of the celebration of the Mass
where the institution of this sacrament is remembered when Jesus turned
the bread and wine into His Body and Blood. This is extended until the
Body of Christ is shared during communion.

We believe that the Holy Eucharist is the highest form of prayer.

Every time we celebrate the Eucharist “in memory” of Jesus’ sacrifice of
love for all of humanity, we live and participate in the saving acts of Jesus.
He is present with us in a special meal, speaking to us in the Liturgy of the
Word, and sharing with us His body and blood in the Liturgy of the
Eucharist.

 During the Holy Eucharist or Holy Mass, we should listen carefully

to God’s Word. We listen carefully for Jesus is speaking to us
through the priest.

Why should we listen carefully to the Readings, the Gospel and the
Homily?

2. We learn more about ourselves.
3. We learn more about the Church.
