Nira ScHEDULE ‘Tent SCHEDULE, UNIFORM BUILDING BY-LAWS 1984 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 133 of the Street, Draina, and Building Act 1974, the Minister/State Authority makes the following by-laws: PARTI PRELIMINARY 1. Citation. ‘These By-laws may be cited as the Uniform Building By-laws 1984. 2. Interpretation. In these By-laws, unless the context otherwise requires: “Act” means the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974; board, wall, bar, pillar, post, wire, or any combination of these, or any erection of any kind, or “advertisement hoarding” means any frame, hoardin; any surface or space used for the display of trade, business or professional advertisements; “aggregate” means any material other than cement and water used in the making of concrete which does not contain additions or admixtures: “alterations” includes additions and extensio “approved” means approved by the local authority ‘approved plan” means a plan for a building approved by the local authority in accordance with these By-laws; baseme} ata level lower than the ground storey means any storey or storeys of a building which is or are ns, FGN 1046/99) “building line” means the line prescribed by either the competent planning authority or the local authority beyond which no part of a building may project, except as otherwise permitied by these By-laws; BS” means the latest published edition of the British Standard Specification; “BSCP” means the latest published edition of the British Standard Code of Practice: “ceiling” means the covering to the underside of floor joists or ceilin; joists or floor slabs excluding in all cases any supporting beams, and where no such covering exists means the underside of floor joists or roof cellars or ties excluding any supporting beams: “certificate of completion and compliance” means a certificate issued under by-law 25a; “column”, in relation to structural steel, timber or reinforced concrete, means any part of construction which will by its resistance to compression in the direction of its length and to the bending actions induced by such compression, support and transmit loading; “dead load” means that static weight of all walls, partitions, floors, roofs and finishes, including all other permanent construction; “depth”, in respect of a building, means the measured distance between the front line of the building and the back line of the rear main wall which separates the main building from the open space; “detached buildi buildings; means any building not attached to any other ngineer” means a person who is registered as a professional engineer Under any law relating to the registration of engineers and who under the law is allowed to practise or carry on the business of a professional engineer; ‘external wall” means an outer wall of a building not being a party wall notwithstanding that it may immediately adjoin a wall of another building ictory” means any building or part thereof designed, adapted or used for— (@) the making of any article or part of any article, commodity or product; or (b) the altering, repairing, ormamenting, finishing, cleaning, washing or the breaking up or demolition of any article, commodity or product; or (c) the adapting for sale or assembly of any article, commodity or product;
