MPLS VPN
MPLS VPN
MPLS ? VPN ( Introduction ) Dear friends This article is for those who want to
know little bit/basic Introduction of the MPLS VPN . Many of us having a
confusion about the MPLS VPN, like how it is different from the other virtual
private networks. Hence I m presenting the following article to solve the basic
query about MPLS VPN . Hope it will be useful for you. And at the same time , I
need your valuable suggestions/ comments/queries. MPLS ? VPN is short form of
the multi protocol label switching Virtual private network. In MPLS VPN technique
every IP packet that travels on the network is assigned a label to identify the
customer and the information flow. Simply , we can say that the router doesn?t
have to look at the IP addresses. This increases the data transfer speed without
making any compromises in the security issues. By labelling techniques different
customers/subscribers will have overlapping IP addresses. Hence they
communicate on the same provider network, which will bring down the cost of
operations & also simplifying the WAN connectivity. MPLS VPN exits in layer 2
and layer 3 models. At layer 2 , MPLS VPN helps to give network control in the
hands of customer , while in case of layer 3 the control is with the service
provider . Service providers can greatly benefit by providing various value added
services on layer 3 VPN. And also they have full control on the traffic information
. MPLS VPN can also provide internet access. Now I think some of my friends are
having doubts that how it is possible and if possible then whether it will affect
the security. The answer is very simple, there is a network address translator
also called as NAT server within a private network which allowing a system in the
VPN with a private IP address to access the internet. So, in this way it will not
affect the QoS and security. And I think this is one of the major advantage of the
MPLS VPN. Because by providing the internet access with security means not
only for simply doing browsing, mailing, chatting etc but it can use by the buyers
or suppliers to log on the network of the corporate customer from public network
(i.e., internet) just like the internet banking . Besides this we can also offer the
VoIP ( voice over internet protocol) or internet telephony in future. At last I want
to say that , BSNL as a service provider which uses translational MPLS based
layer 2.5 VPN ( which allowing smooth & continous data flow across multiple
protocols such as frame relay, ATM , and Ethernet / LAN ) can generate more
revenue if we add more value added services. Good bye.
