    Teachers need to understand that students do not always immediately learn what is taught. While instruction beyond a student's current level may not be absorbed right away, it provides examples they can incorporate later. Studies show that targeting instruction to a student's developmental readiness can benefit language acquisition. When students are ready to progress, focused instruction allows them to demonstrate developmental changes. However, development alone does not guarantee success - the type of instruction is also important.

    TEACH WHAT IS TEACHABLE

    Teachers needs to understand why students don't always learn what they
    are taught at least not immediately.
    The research shows that instruction on language that is 'too advanced' may
    still be helpful by providing learners with samples of language that they will
    be able to incorporate into their interlanguage when the time is right.

    Teaching methodologies

    meaningful communication, not structure.
    The class becomes more learner-centered.
