actuators, valves, etc. Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and
thermal system and their transfer functions. Position control
and velocity control systems. Voltage regulators. System
specification. State variable and state vatriable representation
of linear systems. Canonical representation, eigen value
analysis, modes. Controllability and observability. Stability,
state variable feedback and pole placement. Compensation
techniques. Proportional integral and derivative controllers.
Industrial applications and examples
Learning Outcomes:
1. Model physical elements in dynamic systems and find the
transfer function of a system comprising mechanical and
other physical components.
2. Predict the outcome response of a first – or second – order
system both in time and frequency domain subject to
typical input signals.
3. Complete a given task in linear system control such as an
assignment or a project by applying concepts in dynamic
and control systems.
4. Analyse and interpret the data obtained from a control
experiment.
5. Design a first – order and second – order system with
suitable parameters and /or PID controller that will be
stable and have the required system performance.
