1) What are characteristics of Normal person?

Maslow and Mittleman (1951) has described 10 characteristics

Of a normal personality.

1. Adequate feeing of security

2. Adequate Emotionally

3. Adequate Self Evaluation

4. Adequate desire and have ability to gratify them

5. Adequate Self Knowledge

6. Efficient Contact with reality

7. Integration and Consistency

8. Realistic Life Goals

9. Ability to learn from past experiences

10. Ability to satisfy the requirement of the group.

Normality implies not only differences from a media that is regarded as

normal in a social and cultural context but also a dynamic adaptability to the

changing environmental state. The term “normality” is used in psychology to

describe a complex functional equilibrium that is both dynamic and active, as well

as interdependent with the environment.

 Are Normality is described as personality or behavior tendencies.

Characteristics that are common or adhere to a prescribed norm of

Acceptable ways to act and Conduct oneself.


 According to Hawker (2008), “normal” is defined as “standard, common,

ordinary,” Conventional, anticipated, typical, common, routine, of Sound

and composed in mind.

 According to the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO), Considering

total bodily, mental, and social health as normal Well-being.

2) What are characteristics of abnormal person?

Characteristics of Abnormality

Maslow and Mittleman (1951) has described some characteristics of an abnormal

Personality. These are as follows;

•Abnormal person’s have different symptoms than a normal.

•Suffering from unhappiness

•Less efficiency

•Excessive Defensiveness

Poor Adjustment

•Lack of Insightful behavior

Sensitivity and tension

•Less Enjoyment

Other Characteristics of Abnormality

•Lack of Self Evaluation

•Inadequate Emotional Control

•Lack of Attachment to reality

•Lack of Satisfaction

•Lack of Self Knowledge


•Disorganized personality (ID, Ego, Superego)

•Lack of realistic goal.

Inability to use previous experiences

•Inability to work with social group (anti-social behavior)

Exaggeration is the only way to describe abnormal psychological

phenomena.

Strange, odd, or unusually emotional human behavior and Different things

from the ordinary are viewed as abnormal. K Wisker (1949)

Behavior that is abnormal doesn’t conform to social norms and Developed

from a depressed or anxious state and erroneous thinking. Reiger (1998)
