OLYMPIC GAMES

History:

 First games were hold in Olympia 776 BC in honor of the god Zeus
 It was only for men. From that point were held every four year.
 Competitors were competed in Running, jumping, wrestling, horse racing – they were
naked
 Really important - even wars were stopped while they took place
 399 A. D. banned by Romans

 It took 1503 years for the Olymoics to return


 Pierre de Coubertin- french, who is responsivble for the comeback of Olympics
 1st modern games were hold in Athens 1896
 2nd modern games - for women 1900
 The official symbol of the modern Games is five interlocking colored rings, representing the
continents of North and South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia.

 2018 Pchjongcchang – 3000 competitors, 15 sports, Chech republic won 7 medails.
Ester Ledecka won two gold medails in snowboarding and also in skiing

Cricket
 2 Teams of 11 players each play with a ball and a bat.
Football
 has been played for hundreds of years
 Each team has 11 players on the field/pitch. One of these players is the goalkeeper, and the
other ten are known as "outfield players". The game is played by kicking a ball into the
opponent's goal. A match has 90 minutes of play, with a break of 15 minutes during the match.
The break in the middle is called half-time.

Tennis
 The world's most famous tennis tournament is Wimbledon
 The goal of tennis is to hit the ball by racket over the net into the other player's court. When
the other player cannot return the ball, a point is won. The game is played with two or four
people. When it is played with two people, it is called “singles”, and when it is played with
four people, it is called “doubles”.

Rugby
 Played with an oval ball
 Players can carry the ball and tackle each other
 The game is played on a pitch with two teams of fifteen players. Each team can carry, pass or
kick the ball to the end zone to score as many points as possible. The two teams compete for
two forty minute halves with a five minute halftime. Referee
Golf
 Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of
holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Each hole on the course must have a tee box,
and a putting green containing the actual hole. There are other standard forms of terrain in
between, such as the rough (long grass), sand traps, and various hazards (water, rocks, …)

Ice-hockey
 The ice-hockey is played on ice rink. There are always 2 opponent teams of 6 players
including the goalkeeper. The players use their stick to shoot rubber puck into opponent´s net
to score points. The team that has scored more points wins the game.
 The game lasts 60 minutes, divided by 3 thrids, between thirds there are 15 minutes long

Lacrosse
 500 years ago, it was used to keep fit but also instead of war, when there were some conflicts
to be solved
 Four types of lacrosse: Field, Box, Woman‘s, Intecrosse.
 The lacrosse is played  with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. Players use the head of the
stick to catch, carry and shoot the ball into the goal.
 10 players, played on quarters each one 15 minutes,

USA
American football
 Played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end
 The purpose is to move the ball towards the opposition's end zone and ultimately into their end
zone (a touchdown).
 This is achieved by running with the ball until tackled, or throwing the ball down field to a
team mate.
 It‘s quite violent sport so all players must wear protective paddings and helmet.
Basketball
 Played on a rectangular court
 Two oppositing teams of 5 players
 The objective is to shoot a basketball through a hoop
 The only equipment you need is basketball ball and the court with hoop
Baseball
 A bat-and-ball game played on a field between two opposing teams of 9 players who take
turns batting and fielding
 Pitcher throws a ball, which a player on the batting team tries to hit with a bat into the field,
and to run the bases. As soon as the batter reaches the 4th base, the batting team gets a point.
 The purpose of fielding team is to lock bases by throwing a ball to on base standing player. If
the runner is locked he is out.
EXTREME SPORTS
Freestyle-skiing
 This sport has developed itself from classical skiing as a result of boredom and desire to try
out new things
 Freeskiing could be divided into two general groups: freestyle and freeride. Freestyle skiing
usually takes place in spotlessly shaped snowparks, where you can see various kinds of
barriers, such as kickers, rails, u-ramps or boxes.
 Completely different thing is freeride skiing. The main idea is – it’s only you and the
mountain.
Surfing
 It is a surface water sport in which the surfer rides on the forward face of a wave, which is
most often carrying the surfer towards shore.
 The most suitable conditions for surfing are often found in the ocean.
Parkour
 the aim is to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without equipment
and in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
 Parkour includes running, climbing, swinging, jumping, rolling, and other movements as
deemed most suitable for the situation

Leisure sports
Leisure Sports are freeform, voluntary and non-competitive activities, which aim to regulate the
mental state of people. Leisure Sports are not a specific sport.

Airsoft and Paintball


 Sports that use fake guns to battle
 Paintball bullets leave paint on the target
 Airsoft bullets can leave bruises or even wounds
 It can be played in teams or individually, the goal is to shoot your enemy

Bowling
 Sport where people roll a heavy ball
 The bowler rolls the ball down a bowling lane trying to knock down wooden bowling
pins
Fun run
 road running or cross country running with taking part for their own enjoyment
rather than competition
 A fun run will usually be held to raise funds for a charity
 can include novelty categories, such as wearing costumes, and age categories for
child, teen, and mature
