:‫وعن النعامن بن بشري ريض الله عنهام عن النبي ﷺ قال‬

."‫"الدعاء هو العبادة‬

An-Nu'man bin Bashir


(May Allah be pleased with them)
reported:

The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said,


"Du'a (supplication) is worship."
(Abu Dawud)

‫ ”كان رسول الله ﷺ‬:‫ قالت‬،‫ ريض الله عنها‬،‫وعن عائشة‬


(‫) أبو داود‬.“‫ ويدع ما سوى ذلك‬،‫يستحب الجوامع من الدعاء‬

'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her)


reported:
“The Messenger of Allah (‫)ﷺ‬
liked comprehensive supplications
or (supplications with very few words
but comprehensive in meanings),
and discarded others.”
(Abu Dawud)
When Seeing the Crescent Moon

ِ ‫السال َم ِة وا ِإل ْس‬


،‫الم‬ َّ ‫ َو‬، ِ‫للَّ ُه َّم أَ ِهلَّ ُه علَيْ َنا بِاألَ ْمنِ وا ِإلميَان‬
‫الل ُرشْ ٍد و َخ ْ ٍري‬
ُ ‫ ِه‬،‫َر ِّيب و َربُّ َك اللَّه‬

Allahumma ahillahu 'alaina bil-amni


wal-iman, was-salamati wal-Islam,
Rabbi wa Rabbuk-Allah, hilalu
rushdin wa khairin.

Allah is the greatest. O Allah, let the


crescent loom above us in safety, faith,
peace, and Islam. Our Lord and your
Lord is Allah. (At-Tirmidhi)
When Waking Up

‫يل روحي َوأَ ِذ َن يل ب ِِذكْرِه‬


ّ ‫الحم ُد لل ِه الذي عافاين يف َج َسدي َو َر ّد َع‬

Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi `afāni fī jasadi,


wa radda `alayya ruhi, wa 'adhina
li bidhikrihi.

Praise is to Allah Who gave strength to


my body and returned my soul to me
and permitted me to remember Him.
(At-Trimidhi)
When Clothing Oneself

‫الحم ُد لل ِه الّذي كَساين هذا )الثّوب( َو َر َزقَنيه ِم ْن غَـي ْـ ِر َحو ٍل ِم ّني َوال قـ ّوة‬

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi kasani hadha


(ath-thawba) wa razaqanihi min ghayri
hawlim-minni wa la quwwah.

Praise is to Allah Who has clothed me


with this (garment) and provided it for
me, though I was powerless myself and
incapable.

(Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud,


Ibn Majah, At-Tirmidhi)
Before Entering the Toilet

‫) ب ِْس ِم الله( اللّ ُهـ َّم إِنِّـي أَعـو ُذ ب َِـك ِمـ َن الْ ُخـ ْب ِث‬
‫َوالْ َخبائِث‬
[Bismillah] Allahumma 'inni 'a`udhu
bika minal-khubthi walkhaba'ith.

[In the Name of Allah]. O Allah, I seek


protection in You from evil and the evil
ones (or, from the evil male and
female Jinn).
(Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and the
additonal ‘Bismillah’ from Fathul-Bari)

When Leaving the Toilet


‫ُغفْـرانَك‬
Ghufranaka
I seek Your forgiveness.

(Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah,


and At-Tirmidhi)
When Starting Ablution (Wudu’)

‫ب ِْس ِم الل ِه‬


Bismillah
In the Name of Allah.
(At-Tirmidhi)

When Ablution is Finished

‫يـك لَـ ُه َوأَشْ َه ُد أَ َّن ُم َح ّمـدا ً َع ْبـ ُد ُه َو َرسـولُـه‬


َ ‫أَشْ َه ُد أَ ْن ال إِلَـ َه إِالّ الل ُه َو ْح َد ُه ال َرش‬

Ash-hadu 'an la 'ilaha 'illallahu


wahdahu la sharika lahu wa 'ash-hadu
'anna Muhammadan `abduhu
wa Rasuluhu.

I bear witness that none has the right


to be worshipped but Allah alone,
who has no partner; and I bear
witness that Muhammad is His
slave and His Messenger.
(Muslim)
Before Eating the Pre-Dawn Meal
‫ب ِْس ِم الل ِه‬
Bismillah
In the Name of Allah.

After Eating the Pre-Dawn Meal


‫ال َح ْم ُد لل ِه ال َِّذي أَطْ َع َم ِني َهذَا َو َر َزقَ ِن ْي ِه ِم ْن غ ْ َِري َح ْول ٍ ِم ِّني َوال قُ َّوة‬
Alhamdu lillahi ‘l-ladhi at`amani hadha,
wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni
wa la quwwah.

Praise is to Allah Who has given me this


food, and sustained me with it though I was
unable to do it and powerless.
(At-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud,
and Ibn Majah)

Upon Forgetting the Bismillah


Before Eating
ِ ‫ب ِْس ِم اللَّ ِه ِيف أَ َّولِ ِه َو‬.
‫آخ ِر ِه‬
Bismillahi fi awwalihi wa akhirih.
Say: ‘In the name of Allah in it’s
beginning and end.
(Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
When Leaving the Home

‫ْـت َعىل الل ِه َوال َح ْو َل َوال قُـ َّو َة إِالّ بِالله‬


ُ ‫ تَ َوكَّل‬،‫ب ِْس ِم الل ِه‬
Bismillahi, tawakkaltu `alallahi, wa la
hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

In the Name of Allah, I have placed my


trust in Allah, there is no might and
no power except by Allah.
(Abu Dawud, and At-Tirmidhi)

When Entering Home


‫ َو َعلـى َربِّنـا ت َ َوكّلْـنا‬،‫ َوب ِْس ِـم الل ِه َخـ َر ْجنـا‬،‫ب ِْس ِـم الل ِه َولَ ْجنـا‬

Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi


kharajna, wa `ala Rabbina tawakkalna

In the Name of Allah we enter, in the


Name of Allah we leave, and upon our
Lord we depend [then say As-Salāmu
`Alaykum to those present].
(Abu Dawud, and Muslim)
When Breaking Fast

‫ َوث َ َب َت األَ ْج ُر إِ ْن شَ ا َء ٱللَّٰ ُه‬،‫ َوابْتَل َِّت ال ُع ُر ْو ُق‬،ُ‫َذ َه َب الظ ََّأم‬

Dhahabal-zama', wabtallati ‘l-`uruqu,


wa thabata ‘l-'ajru, Insha’Allah.
The thirst is gone, the veins
are moistened, and the reward is
confirmed, if Allah wills. (Abu Dawood)

‫ أَ ْن تَ ْغ ِف َر ِيل‬،‫للَّه َّم إِ ِّين أَ ْسأَل َُك ِب َر ْح َم ِت َك الَّ ِتي َو ِس َع ْت ك َُّل َيشء‬

Allahumma inni as'aluka bi rahmatika


‘l-lati wasi`at kulla shay' an taghfira li.

O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy, which


encompasses all things, that You
forgive me. (Ibn Majah)

Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn Al-Aas (may


Allah be pleased with him) related
that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:
“Indeed the fasting person has at the
time of breaking fast, a supplication
which is not rejected”.
When Given Food to Eat

‫اللَّ ُه َّم بَار ِْك لَ َنا ِفي ِه َوأَطْ ِع ْم َنا َخ ْريا ً ِم ْن ُه‬

Allāhumma barik lana fihi,


wa at`imna khayran minh.

O Allah, bless us in it and provide


us with better than it.

When Given Milk to Drink

‫اللَّ ُه َّم بَار ِْك لَ َنا ِفي ِه َو ِز ْدنَا ِم ْن ُه‬

Allahumma barik lana fīhi,


wa zidna minh.

O Allah, bless us in it and


give us more of it.

(At-Tirmidhi)
When Prostrating During Quranic Recitation
In Taraaweh or in Private Recitation

َ َ َ‫ َوشَ َّق َس ْم َع ُه َوب‬،‫َس َج َد َو ْجه َِي لِل َِّذي َخلَ َق ُه‬


‫ فَتَ َبا َر َك الل ُه‬،‫ ِب َح ْولِ ِه َوقُ َّوتِ ِه‬،‫رص ُه‬
‫حس ُن الْ َخالِ ِقي‬ َ َ‫أ‬
Sajada wajhiya lilladhi khalaqahu, wa shaqqa
sam`ahu wa basarahu bihawlihi wa quwwatihi.
Fatabarakallahu 'ahsanul-khaliqin.

I prostrated my face to the One Who created it,


and gave it hearing and sight by His might and
His power. Glory is to Allah, the Best of
creators. (At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad and Al-Hakim)

‫ َوا ْج َعـلها يل‬، ً ‫ َوضَ ـ ْع َع ِّنـي بِهـا ِو ْزرا‬، ً ‫ـب يل بِهـا ِع ْنـ َد َك أَ ْجـرا‬ ْ ُ‫اللّ ُهـ َّم اكْت‬
‫ َوتَ َق َّبـلها ِم ِّنـي كَمـا تَ َق َّبلْتَـها ِم ْن َع ْب ِـد َك داود‬، ً ‫ِع ْنـ َد َك ُذ ْخـرا‬

Allāhummak’tub li biha `indaka ajra, wada`


`anni biha wizra, waj`alha li `indaka dhukhra,
wa taqabbal’ha minni kama taqabbal’taha
min `abdika Dawud.

O Allah, write it as a reward for me, and release


me from a burden for it, and make it a treasure
for me with You. Accept it from me as You
accepted it from your servant Dawud.
(At-Tirmidhi, and Al-Hakim)
Before Undressing
‫ب ِْس ِم الل ِه‬
Bismillah

In the Name of Allah.

Before Sleeping
‫ب ِْاس ِم َك اللَّه َّم أَ ُم ْوتُ َوأَ ْح َيا‬

Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya.

In Your name O Allah, I live and die.

Upon Forgetting the Bismillah


Before Eating
ِ ‫ب ِْس ِم اللَّ ِه ِيف أَ َّولِه ِ َو‬.
‫آخ ِر ِه‬
Bismillahi fi awwalihi wa akhirihi.

In the name of Allah in it’s


beginning and end.

(Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)


The Eid Takbeers

‫اللّ ُه أكرب اللّ ُه أكرب‬

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar


Allah is Greater, Allah is Greater

‫اللّ ُه أكرب‬

Allahu Akbar
Allah is Greater

‫ال إلَ َه اال اللّه‬

La illaha il Allah
There is no God, but Allah

‫اللّ ُه أكرب اللّ ُه اكرب‬

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar


Allah is Greater, Allah is Greater

‫و لِلّه الحم َد‬


Walilahil Hamd
To Him belongs all Praise
(Ibn Abī Shaybah, Al-Musannaf)
When Donning New Clothing
(as on Eid)

ِ ْ ‫ْـت ك ََسـ ْوتَني ِه أَ ْسأَل َُـك ِمـ ْن َخـريِ ِه َو َخ‬


‫ـري َما ُص ِن َع‬ َ ‫اللّ ُهـ َّم ل ََـك ال َحـ ْمـ ُد أن‬
‫لَـه َوأَعو ُذ ب َِك ِمـ ْن شَ ـ ِّر ِه َوشَ ـ ِّر مـا ُص ِن َع لَـ ُه‬

Allāhumma lakal-hamdu 'anta


kasawtanīhi, 'as'aluka min khayrihi wa
khayri ma suni`a lahu, wa 'a`oothu bika
min sharrihi wa sharri ma suni`a lahu.

O Allah, praise is to You. You have


clothed me. I ask You for its goodness
and the goodness of what it has been
made for,and I seek Your protection
from the evil of it and the evil of what
it has been made for.

(Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
