INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN

(A) DESIGN ELEMENTS

The design elements can define the environment. They are the basic elements for most
of the imageries. These elements more helpful for thinking process of the design and its
graphical presentations.

1.0 Point
The environment is combination of many points. Very basic element and this direct the
other design elements.

2.0 Line
Basis for most graphic communication. Line has variety of meanings and as being an
edge or outline. Line control, a skill based on eye-hand relationship.
Type of lines
Straight line

Parallel line

Expressive line

Implied line

Curved line

Continuous line
3.0 Shape
When in designing in the paper, it is necessary to communicate the ideas two
dimensionally, which is called shape.
Type of shapes
Geometric shape

Organic shape

Static/Dynamic shape

Implied shape

Dividing shape
4.0 Form
Form represents the aspects of volume. Which has the three dimensional qualities.
(Length, width, depth)

Regular form

Irregular form

Solid form

Subtractive form

Additive form

Form define space with horizontal elements
