1. A ball is thrown vertically upward from the ground with a velocity 39.2 ms-1. Calculate :
(i) the maximum height to which the ball rises and
(ii) the time taken by the ball to reach the highest point.

2. A body standing near the edge of a cliff 125 m above a river throws a stone downward with a speed of 10
ms-1 Find :
(i) with what speed will the stone hit water and
(ii) how long will it take to descend ?
3. A stone is thrown vertically upward which takes time ‘t’ to reach to maximum height ‘h’. After next ‘t’ seconds it
reached the ground from the maximum height. Draw (i) distance-time graph and (ii) displacement time graph for the
motion of the stone.
4. A cheetah is the fastest land animal and it can achieve a peak velocity of 100 km per hour upto distances less than
500 metres. If the cheetah spots his prey at a distance of 100 metres what is the minimum time it will take to get its
prey?
5. A car moves with a speed of 30km/h for half an hour; 25km/h for 1 hr and 40km/hr for 2 hrs. Find average speed.
6. Two stones are thrown vertically upwards simultaneously with their initial velocities u1 and u2 respectively.
Prove that the heights reached by them would be in ratio (u1)2 : (u2) 2
7. Two boys A and B, travel along the same path. The displacement – time graph for their journey is given in the
following figure.
(a) How far down the road has B travelled when A starts the journey?
(b)Without calculation, the speed, state who is traveling faster A or B?
(c) What is the speed of A?

(e) Are the speed of A and B uniform?
(f) What dose point X on the graph represent?

aeroplane engine can produce a maximum acceleration of 10 m s during its motion on

heavy vehicles is 40 km/h. After 6 minutes moving with the speed of 60 km/h, it reaches Stop
C. Then driver decreases the speed of the bus and reaches Stop D, which is 12 km from Stop C.
a) Calculate the distance covered by the bus from Stop B to Stop C.
(b) If the average speed of the bus is 40 km/h, what is the speed of the bus between Stop C
and Stop D?
(c) What value is shown by the passenger who asks the driver to decrease the speed of the
bus?
