    ACTIVITY 1 – REACTION PAPER ON THE NSTP LAW

    Name: BADANA, Rhea Lou A. Degree Program and Year: BSMA – 1


    Date: 10/03/2022 Group Assignment: Group A

    The National Service Training Program for Tertiary Level Students was made possible by Republic Act
    9163. Its goal is to foster civic awareness among young people, instill a sense of nationalism in them, and
    increase their engagement in public and civic activities. In addition to promoting defense readiness and
    service ethics, the NSTP is a program created to help young people develop their physical, moral,
    spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being while participating in one of its three program components.
    The three NSTP components are as follows: Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) which aims to
    give tertiary level students military training in order to inspire, train, organize, and mobilize them for
    national defense preparation, Civic
    Welfare Training Service (CWTS)
    which seeks to improve the quality of
    life for the community's residents or its
    facilities and overall well-being, and
    Literacy Training Service (LTS) aimed
    to prepare students to teach reading
    and numeracy to young people and
    other groups of the population who can
    benefit from their services.

    Upon reading the provisions under the RA 9163 and its rules and regulations, I can say that all the
    conditions under this act is fair and straightforward. It was a good idea to nullify the mandatory ROTC
    program and implement other program components that still aims to help for the betterment of the
    country and its people. Having the choice to choose which of the three components one can enroll in is
    such an advantage because people way back before didn’t have this kind of privilege. I am amazed at
    how the three NSTP components complement one another. Though they have different meanings and
    purposes they connect to one aim and that is to help young people enhance their active contribution to the
    general welfare.
    My overall insight on this topic is an
    overwhelming thought about the enforcement of
    the different NSTP components can not only
    assist a person to develop or gain new skills but it
    is also a way for them to socialize outside of their
    bubble and communicate with different types of
    people who are in need. It raises their awareness
    of their environment and makes them conscious
    of the current issues within the community.
