Mature Students
Mature students who have not graduated from grade 12 and who are 21 years of age or older may
apply and will be assessed for admission on an individual basis. In such cases, students will
normally be assigned a provisional designation, which is detailed under Programming & Academics.

Home Schooled Students

Students are evaluated on an individual basis and are encouraged to apply. Provisional status may
apply to students who are unable to adequately show acceptable levels of academic performance.

International Applicants (non-Canadian or U.S.)

Clearwater College has welcomed students from many different countries who have come for
ministry preparation. In addition to the standard enrollment procedures for non-international
students, the following items must be in place in order for international applicants to be admitted
for study at Clearwater:

1. Study Permit
International applicants will need to obtain a study permit from a Canadian Consulate or Embassy
(required before leaving their own country). The following documentation is necessary to obtain a
study permit:
• A letter of acceptance from the college
• A valid Passport
• Proof of sufficient funds for their time of study here (ie: a letter from your bank, or recent
financial statement)
• Proof of return transportation

2. Medical Coverage
Students who have obtained a study permit (and visa) for at least one year may apply for free basic
medical coverage through Alberta Health Care Services. Students who have a study permit of less
than one year are required to obtain health insurance coverage prior to arriving in Canada.

International students must have adequate English skills and meet one of the following standards:
• Achieve a minimum score of 86 on the TOEFL internet based test with a minimum score of
21 in each section
• Completion of studies in English equivalent to a Canadian grade 12 diploma with a
minimum of 60% in all core subjects

PLEASE NOTE : International applications usually take many months to process, so it is

recommended that such applicants begin the process up to a year in advance. As well, all
international students will commence study in the fall term only.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at www.cic.gc.ca.

Sponsored International Students

One of our goals is to equip and train international students so that they are able to return to their
home countries and carry on ministry there. This is particularly important to donors who help
sponsor international students so they can impact their countries for Christ. As a result, for
international students who are sponsored by a third party for ministry preparation for their home
country, we have particular measures in place that will help to ensure they return to their home
country for ministry purposes. The sponsored students must sign a covenant stating that they will
return home for ministry purposes after their schooling is complete.

Credit Transfers
Clearwater College will consider transfers of courses that are deemed compatible with our
programming. The following items are conditions for credit transfer:
• The mark earned must be a “C” or higher.
• Clearwater must have a copy of the syllabus that includes a course description, outline of
course content, course requirements, and the instructor’s name and qualifications. This will
help to determine if the course is compatible.
• Students must complete 50% of their program at Clearwater College in order to complete
the program and receive their certificate, diploma or degree from Clearwater College.

• Payment of all tuition and other fees prior to the beginning of studies
