Business Analytics

Course This is a three-credit course offered as a Common Core during second trimester for
Description all MBA students. This course therefore aims to impart the foundational concepts
and skills essential for a future manager to understand and manage data, use data for
decision making and present the outputs creatively using data visualization
techniques. The course further aims to build an understanding of machine learning
and the way it is used by organizations.
Course Data driven decisions form the core of all business operations. Organizations today
Objectives have more information at hand than ever before. Hence, the ability of a manager to
suitably process this information for decision making has become a critical
determinant of organizational success. Studies have shown that organizations have
benefitted by their ability to leverage the power of analytics. In this milieu,
competency in analytics has become a critical skill for new age managers.
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

Apply the concepts of Machine Learning
Analyze the implications of Analytics in various functional areas
Assess data visually using tools
Evaluate data using simulations through MS-Excel

Description
Students are expected to download dataset pertaining to a business problem from the selected sources suggested by the instructor, obtain
the approval, analyse and visually represent using Dashboards and Storyboards. The data sources may include Tableau sample data, other
sources such as https://datasetsearch.research.google.com/, Kaggle, UCI etc. The students also need to submit a write up of 400-500 words
describing the business context and the problem chosen.

Description:
Develop a BA canvas to help the students understand the process from the data collection to problem solving. This is a group assignment where the
students select any sector or domain of their choice, obtain the approval from the instructor and develop the canvas. The domains may include:
Healthcare, Retail, Telecommunication, Sports, Agriculture, Banking, e-commerce etc. An outline of the BA Canvas will be demonstrated in the
class after which the students are expected to prepare a story board to show how Analytics applications are blended with the business processes to
create value for the identified sector or domain. The components of the canvas include the following:
