The concept of constitutionalism is that of a polity governed by or under a constitution that ordains essentially limited government and rule of law as opposed to arbitrary authoritarian or totalitarian rule. Constitutional government, therefore, should necessarily be democratic government. What is constitutionalism and its main features? The principles of Constitutionalism include Separation of Powers, Responsible and Accountable Government, Popular Sovereignty, Independent Judiciary, Individual Rights and Rule of Law. What is the Government of India Act 1935 based on? The Government of India Act was passed by the British parliament in 1935 and came into effect in 1937. It was based ona report by a Joint Select Committee, led by Lord Linlithgow, set up the two houses of the British parliament, What was the Government of India Act? Government of India Act 1833 or Saint Helena Act, created the post of Governor-General of India. Government of India Act 1858, established India as a nation consisting of British India and princely states. Why is the Government of India Act 1935 important? The act provided for the establishment of Reserve Bank of India. The Act also provided for the establishment of federal, provincial and joint Public Service Commissions. The Act was a milestone in the development of a responsible constitutional government in India. Indian Independence Act of 1947 India Independence Act 1947 was an act passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom (UK) that divided the British India into two new independent dominions of India and Pakistan. The Act received the assent of the royal family on July 18, 1947 after which, India came into existence on August 15 and Pakistan on August 14 in the year 1947.oe The Act was formulated together by UK Prime Minister Clement Attlee and the Governor-General of India Lord Mountbatten after the representatives of the Indian National Congress, ; the Muslim League, and the Sikh community gave their consent to the Act. Partition of the British India into two new and fully sovereign dominions-India and Pakistan with effect from August 15, 1947; . These Governor-General would be representing the Crown; .
