2019/2020 STUDENT OBSERVATION REPORT

TANKE BUBU PRIMARY SCHOOL, KWARA STATE ILORIN

INTRODUCTION
Firstly, I really appreciate the staff effort, in particular the principal and for
accommodating me, I kindly choose Tanke Bubu primary school for my observation activities
and I spent eleven days in the school.
The First Day (9thof may ,2022)

I got to bubu primary school at exactly 7:28am which was the first day of resuming, and I only
met few students at the school premises. I waited for the head mistress to explain why I came to
the school. After the assembly I went to her office and told her I came for my observation she
asked me few questions about myself and I answered everything, thereafter she introduced me to
the staff and told me to write my name and sign.
The Second Day (10th of may,2022)

I was in school at 7:10am, I observed most of the students aren’t punctual in school few of the
students start assembly, when the lesson commences some of the student starts showing up. I
went with my mentor teacher to the class which was primary 5, lesson in the classes starts by
8:00 AM the students start by reciting the instructional materials pasted on the wall such as
cardboards which contains a diagram of profession, Multiplication table and a well labeled
diagram of the part of the body. After the recitation the Teachers in the classroom started
teaching and I observed the type of instructional materials used by the teacher, her assessment,
evaluation and I take note of them. At 1:30pm all lessons for the day had been covered, the
teachers gave the students their assignment and we left the school right after they copied the
assignment given to them on the board.
The Third Day (11th of may , 2022)

I came around 7:35 and I joined them on the assembly As usual I went straight to my subject
teacher and I was given a record book to record the student and after some minutes, I was given a
class to invigilate since the students are just resuming, I learnt how control the classes and I
signed out at 1:35pm.
The Fourth Day (12th of May, 2022)

We started assembly at exactly 7:45 am and after the assembly, we started the normal day
activities. I went with the teacher into the class and I observe the methodology she uses in
teaching the students, I found out that most of the students don’t understand English language ,so
she came up with a plan of using the language that could carry along all the students in the class
she asked them questions each time she’s teaching so that she will be sure all the student are
listening and taking note of the lesson .
The Fifth Day (13th of May, 2022)

I went to school and the teacher gave me a topic in mathematics (Basic Arithmetic) to teach the
students. I put all effort on the topic I make use of the teacher lesson plan for that class I make
sure I covered all the objectives in the lesson, I gave the pupils classwork and assignment after
teaching and 80% of the pupils performed very well I was happy about the result and the pupils
enjoyed me teaching to.
The Sixth Day (16th of May, 2022)

I reached school around 7:30am, I organized the pupils for assembly which commenced at 7:45
and ended at 8:02 which they had their normal practices on the assembly ground , after that the
teacher the teacher and students prayed on different segment, where the muslims students on a
separate ground and the Christian students to on a separate ground. After the prayer they
combined together to recite the national anthem. After the assembly the staffs come together to
start the day with prayer for about 10minutes, after we finished the prayer we go to our classes to
take attendance, mark the pupils assignment and start the classes with them.
The Seventh Day (17th of May, 2022)

It was on a Tuesday and we started the normal day activities I followed the teacher
to the class and I observe the teacher, I was given the opportunity to explain to the
students what they didn’t know I did some revision with them on the topics they
have been taught so far , and after the class I waited for about 20minute more to
enlighten the students about what they did not understand, they appreciate and I
realize the teaching was fun.
The eighth day (18th of May, 2020)

They rang the bell for assembly because it was their sport day and we all went to
the field, I joined the tennis game I played with one of students and I won the game
luckily. After sports activities on the field they rang the bell and the pupils started
their recitation and we started the class immediately after that I observe the lessons
taught for the day and also the students while she teaches.
The Ninth Day ( 19th of May, 2020)

As usual I came around 7:45am and I met the students and the teachers on the
assembly ground and after the assembly I followed the teacher to the classroom
and observe the lessons for the day ,we used to start the day with prayer in the
class and follow by an attendance ,the teacher taught the student a new topic in
social studies and religious study ,she asked few question and give them an
assessment before and after the class, she tried using English language to teach
them this time but still most of them aren’t carried along so created a method to
help the students to read and understand some basic things in the language to my
surprise she gave primary 5 students 2-5 letter words to learn and gave them an
assignment on it to work and find more words from 2-5 letter words.
On The Tenth Day (20th May 2020)

I got to bubu primary school at 7:30 am I joined the assembly and we prayed and
signed the attendance it was on a Friday ,as soon as we finished the assembly we
went straight to the class the teacher asked the pupils to submit their assignment,
we took the register and prayed before starting the lesson thereafter the pupils
begin their recitations on the card board after the recitation I did revision on the
work they have done so far and I conducted a spelling competition between the
students on the assignment the teacher give them yesterday few of the students
responded to the questions most of them haven’t changed a bit but are still putting
effort to it. As soon as I finished the teacher started her lesson mathematics (topic
addition and subtraction of whole number). I observed the teacher and I learnt a lot
of things from her and we closed around 1pm and I signed out for the day.
CONCLUSION
From this observation , it is been confirmed that no teaching method is best
method, but they are use as a matter of appropriateness to teach meaningfully.
Diagnosis and remedial are done by the teachers to enhance learning effectiveness
of the students.
In addition, my sincere appreciation goes to the university of Ilorin, faculty of
education and our amiable lecturers who deemed it fit to send us on the
observation program because it has really exposed many of us to the teaching
profession and we have gained more experience on the teaching profession. I also
give thanks to the school management and the staff of (Bubu primary school) for
giving me the privilege to observe their students activities may almighty God bless
you all.
