Safety Precautions
Before using your digitizer, read the following safety guides carefully, which detail
the proper operation of the scanner and its accessories to prevent injuries or
damage to users or equipment.

Meanings of Symbol Signs

WARNING

Power Supply:

Use a power source only with a power rating specified on the marking
label.

Ensure to turn off the power switch on each device before connecting or
disconnecting the power cables.

Insert the plug completely into the outlet, as loose connections may result
in fire or injury.

Ensure to firmly hold the connector to disconnect the cable; otherwise,

pulling the cable may damage the core wires and result in fire or electric
shock.

Make sure the cables run behind tables and away from children and
people walking or stepping on them as this can cause injury.

When the digitizer is left unattended and unused for long periods of time,
unplug it from the wall outlet..

Moving and Storing the Digitizer:

Always ensure that the digitizer is placed or packed properly when

shipping or moving it. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces
may cause damage to the digitizer..

Do not place the digitizer on any slippery, slanted, or unstable surface.

The product may slide or fall, causing serious injury to people as well as
damage to the digitizer.

Do not use the digitizer near water. Never spill liquid of any kind on the

 product, or it may result in electric shock and damage to the digitizer.

This digitizer should be situated away from extreme heat such as

radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products (including amplifiers)
that produce extreme heat.

Do not store the digitizer in direct sunlight.

Maintenance and Service:

When cleaning the digitizer, make sure to turn off the power to each
device and unplug the power cable from the AC outlet.

In case of service, contact your dealer.

Only use replacement parts that are specified by the manufacturer.

For safety reasons, ensure to inspect the device before using it. In
addition, inspect the digitizer on a regular basis.

Knowing about Your Digitizer
The Neo S60 can easily convert x-ray film and paper documents into digitial format
for electronic storage. When used with OmniVue software, Neo S60 can convert X-
ray film or paper documents into DICOM objects.

Features of the Digitizer

• Clinically Proven Image Quality — With a high optical resolution of 600 dpi,
dynamic range of better than 4.0, and 16-bit grayscale, the Neo S60 is one of the
highest quality digitizers in the market..

• Compact and light design — Less than 20 pounds, the Neo S60 is much lighter
than other digitizers that weigh 50-200 pounds. The light weight and compact
design of this digitizer make it ideal for wall-mount or other compact size
applications.

• Various sizes of x-ray films — The Neo S60 covers various sizes of paper and x-
ray film from 2.5"x2.5" to 14"x17".

• Acquisition software — The friendly interface allows for single click operation.
The software automatically scans and processes the images for best results.
Neo S60 is fully compatible with Genesis OmniVue medical software.

• Hi-Speed USB port — With it hi-Speed USB 2.0, the Neo S60 is capable of high
data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbit/sec.

The following are the system requirements for using the Neo S60:

• CD-ROM drive (for installing software)

• Color display with 24-bit display card capable of displaying at 1024 x 768 or
higher resolutions

• 1 GB or more of memory (RAM)

Unpacking Your Digitizer

Looking for Damage

While unpacking your digitizer, inspect the shipping carton for any signs of damage
to the outer carton. The dgitizer’s packing carton and padding material have been
carefully chosen to prevent damage to the unit in shipping and can withstand a
reasonable amount of impact and pressure.

After unpacking your digitizer, ensure that you received all of the parts necessary
for you to set up your digitizer. If there are any damaged or missing parts, notify the
shipper or your dealer immediately.

NOTE: Save the carton and all packing materials. If you need to ship the digitizer
later, it is recommended that you repack it using the original material, which
protect your digitizer from shipping damage. See section “How to Repack Your
Digitizer for Shipping” for more detail.

Unpacking
After unpacking the shipping carton, follow the steps shown below to take out your
digitizer and other components.

1. Ensure that you put the shipping carton

right side up. Then, lift up the top cover.

 2. Remove each cardboard from four sides of
the shipping carton.

3. With both hands, hold the two sides of

the foam supports and then lift up the
foam supports firmly. Do not let go of
either side or you may drop the digitizer
and cause damage to it..

Note: The package may be heavy so be

careful when lifting it.

4. Remove two accessory boxes (1 and 2)

from the foam supports.

5. Turn over the foam supports and make
them stand sideways and vertically.

6. Lift up the upper foam support.

7. Pull out the accessory box 3 from the

bottom foam support. Then, pull out the

digitizer from the bottom foam support.
Your digitizer may be packed with a
piece of cleaning cloth. Use this cloth
to clean the digitizer and the optical
paths such as glass and defuser.

 How to Repack Your Digitizer for Shipping
It is strongly recommended that you use the original carton and other packing
materials when shipping the digitizer. Follow the steps below to repack your
digitizer correctly.

1. First, wrap the digitizer with the plastic bag,

and then insert it into one foam support. Digitizer

foam support..

2. Cover down the other foam support on the

tops of the accessory box and the digitizer.

3. Turn over the foam supports and insert the
other two accessory boxes into both sides
of the foam supports.

4. With both hands, hold the two sides of the

foam supports firmly and then insert them
into the shipping carton.

5. Close the top cover of the shipping carton

Assembling Your Digitizer

Taking a Closer Look

 Installing the Feed Tray or the Film Feeder
Your digitizer comes with a single page Feed Tray which holds a single X-ray film or
reflective paper (e.g. documents or prints) to be fed into the digitizer. However, the
optional Film Feeder can hold and digitize multiple sheets of film. Here is how you
can install each one:

1. Look for two sets of the Feed Tray

Holes at both ends of the front-top of
the digitizer.

2. Insert and push down both sides of the

Feed Tray or the FIlm Feeder into its
compartment holes, making sure the Feed
Tray or Film Feeder snaps into place. Push
it down to make sure it is locked in. Insert and push
down this way to Feed Tray

3. Connect the Film Feeder cord to the back of the digitizer (only
if you have a Film Feeder.)

Installing the Output Tray/Basket
Your digitizer, also comes with an Output Tray to help feed out the X-ray films or
reflective papers (e.g. documents or prints) which have been digitized. To install
the Output Tray, follow these steps:

.
1. Place the digitizer on the edge of a table
so you can install the Output Tray onto
it. Alternatively, you can mount the
digitizer onto a wall. Look for two sets
of Output Tray Holes at both ends of the
front-bottom of the digitizer.

2. Insert and push down both sides of the Output Tray into its compartment
holes, making sure the Output Tray snaps into place.

NOTE: An Output Guide is also provided if you prefer to place your digitizer on
a flat table instead of placing it on the edge of a desk or mount it on the wall.
The left diagram below shows you how to install the Output Guide. The
image on the right shows how to install the Output Basket.

 Installing the Software
Important: You must install the software before connecting your digitizer. First,
install OmniVue software CD which may have been included with your digitizer.
Then, install the Neo S60 Driver CD. If your digitizer was bundled with a computer,
all the software and drivers are already installed for you. If you did not receive a
computer with your digitizer, follow these steps to install the software:

Note: Always close any open/running programs and turn off Anti-virus utilities
before installing new software.

To install OmniVue, follow these steps:

1. Turn on your computer.

2. Place the OmniVue CD into your CD-

ROM drive. The Software Installer
screen will come up.

3. Click the option "Install USB Licensed

Version" to install the full version of
OmniVue.

NOTE: If the Software Installer screen

does not come up
automatically, double-click “My Computer” or "Computer"; then run "Genesis" or
"Genesis.exe" from the CD-ROM.

4. Click EXIT or Finish on the Software Installer screen when all the software have
been installed. Then, eject the CD and store it in a safe place..

Note: Alternatively, you can download the full version or an upgrade version of
OmniVue from Genesis web site at www.genesisdigital.com. You must have a USB
protection key in order to use the software.

To install the drivers for the Neo S60 digitizer, follow these steps:

1. Place the "Neo S60 Driver CD" into your CD-ROM drive.

2. Open "My Computer" or "Computer" and then open/browse the CD..

3. Double-click the file "Setup" or "Setup.exe" to start the Neo S60 driver
installation.

4. Follow the screen instructions to finish copying the drivers to your computer.
You are now ready to connect your digitizer to your computer.

Connecting the Digitizer and Installing the Drivers
Power Cord
1. Make sure the digitizer's power switch is in the off position. Connect the
power cord to the digitizer.

2. Connect the other end of the power cord to a wall outlet or other power source.

3. Connect one end of the Hi-Speed USB cable to your computer.

4. Connect the other end of the Hi-Speed USB cable to the digitizer’s USB port.

 5. Turn the power switch at the front-left panel of the digitizer on and wait for the
lights to stop blinking. The lights will blink for a few seconds and then stay on
steady.

NOTE: It takes a few seconds for your digitizer to warm up and for the lights to stop
blinking.

6. Once the lights stop blinking, your computer will detect the digitizer and
prompts you to install the drivers. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you
should see a message on the bottom right hand corner of your screen informing you that the
Neo S60 has been installed successfully. You can skip the next few sections as they pertain
to Windows XP installation only.

If you are using Windows XP, you will see the following dialog box displayed on
your screen. Select any of the options and click Next.

7. Select the option, "Install the software automatically (recommended)" from
the next screen. Then click Next to continue.

8. Select "Continue Anyway" when you see the following message.

 10. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Remove the "Neo S60 Driver CD" from the CD ROM drive and store it in a safe place.
You are now ready to use your digitizer.

Digitizing X-ray Films and Paper Documents

Positioning X-ray Films and Reflective Materials

This section shows you how to position a single-sheet X-ray film, or paper
document into the feed tray.

1. Make sure you have installed

the Input Tray onto your digitizer Input Tray
before using the digitizer. Refer
to the section "Install the Feed
Tray" for details.

2. If digitizing film, place it in the tray facing up and bottom of film feeding
first. If digitizing paper, place it with the document facing down and the
top of the paper feeding first..

3. Align the original with the center of the Input Tray by sliding the two Guide
Arms toward the original if the width of the original is less than 14 inches.

• The Input Tray can handle X-ray films, documents, or prints in the following
sizes:

– Width: 2.5" to 14" (50.8 to 355.6 mm)

– Length: 2.5" to 35" (50.8 to 889 mm)
– Sheet Feed: One sheet at a time

• If the originals are torn, curled, or wrinkled, do not put them into the Input Tray
for scanning, as they can cause damage and/or paper jam.

• Remove paper clips or staples before placing originals into the Input Tray. DO
NOT use the digitizer to scan films or documents with paper clips or staples as
this can cause damage to the digitizer.

Positioning multiple X-ray Films on the Film Feeder
This section shows you how to position multiple X-ray films using the optional Film
Feeder.

1. Make sure you have installed

the Film Feeder properly. Refer
to the section "Installing the
Feed Tray or Film Feeder" for
more details.

2. Lift the top rollers up and place

a stack of films on the front tray
of the Film Feeder as shown.

3. When loading film onto the Film

Feeder, make sure you place the
films in the front "rest" tray as
shown. Do not place the films in
the scanning path.

 4. Close the top rollers over the
films.

5. When using the Film Feeder, it is

strongly suggested you use the
Output Basket to catch the scanned
films coming out of the digitizer.
Make sure you have the digitizer
placed on the edge of a table with
the Output Basket properly
installed.

Note: You can use small films as

well as mixed-size x-rays with the
Film Feeder as long as you align
the bottom of the films and place
them in the Film Feeder.

Using Neo S60 to Digitize Film and Paper
Neo S60 Acquisition Module (shown on the next page) is an acquisition interface
designed to work with the Neo S60 Digitizer. It interfaces with Genesis OmniVue
software and can digitize X-ray films and paper documents. When used with
OmniVue, Neo S60 Acquisition Module allows you to capture and create DICOM
objects from both film and paper. Here is how you can digitize film or paper:

1. Launch OmniVue and select the "Patient List" tab from the "WORKLIST." The
"Patient List" tab is the first tab in the "WORKLIST." This tab is only available if you
are using the USB protection key that came with your digitizer.

2. Click "New" and enter a new patient information. Click "Save & Start" to save
the information and move to the next tab. You can also double-click an existing
patient..

3. The "Acquisition" tab will be selected automatically.

 4. Click "Acquire Digitizer" to launch Neo S60 Acquisition Module. The Acquisition
Module will appear on your screen.

5. Place an X-ray film or document to be digitized on the Input Tray. Place the
film facing up with the bottom of the X-ray feeding into the digitizer first. If
digitizing paper, place it facing down with the top of the page feeding into the
digitizer.

6. Select the film size or select paper depending on the material you want to
digitize. Since the software will perform autocropping as well as many other
functions automatically, you can leave this option on 14 x 17 at all times.

7. Select 72 (1K) or 150 (2K) as your resolution. Most film and paper require a
resolution of 72 to 200 dpi which is equivalent to 1K to 3K. Higher resolutions
create large files that are difficult to manage and transmit to other locations.

Note: You can also change options such as Auto Crop, Light Intensity,
Brightness and Contrast. By default, the program is setup to handle most types
of film and paper automatically. The option "Restore Default Settings" under
"Settings" button can reset all the settings to the factory default if you need to
reset them.

8. Click "Scan Film" or "Scan Paper" to start. After a few seconds of initializing,
the digitizer will start feeding the film or paper and digitize it. The digitizer
will need a few seconds to initialize if this is the first time you are scanning

 paper or film after the digitizer has been turned on.

Note: The options "Scan Multi Film" and "Scan Multi Paper" are used when
scanning multiple films or multiple papers. The option "Scan Multi Film" must
be used with an optional Film Feeder. The option "Scan Multi paper" can be
used independent of the Film Feeder when you are digitizing multiple paper
sheets and want to feed them one at a time. The program will prompt you to
put each page in the digitizer.

9. You can repeat steps 5-8 to capture multiple film and paper documents. When
done, press "Exit" to close the Neo S60 Acquisition Module. If you have a Film
Feeder and place multiple films in it to digitize, you only need to click the
"Scan Multi Film" once and the Film Feeder will load and scan multiple films
for you.

10. After pressing "Exit", OmniVue will import the images into a list under
"Acquisition" tab. Depending on the number of images, this process may take
a few minutes.

11. To view the images or change their window and level, double-click the entry in
the list and start editing the images. To switch from viewing and adjusting the
images back to "WORKLIST", select "File", "View Worklist" to display the
Worklist again as shown below. You may be asked to save your changes if you
have made any.

12. In order to change modality or other options for your digitizer, refer to the next

 two pages.

13. If you are satisfied with the images/exams you have digitized, click "Accept
Exam" in the "Acquisition" tab to permanently transfer them to the "Exam List"
tab. You will no longer be able to delete or add more images to this study.
However, if you want to delete and start over again, select the entry and click
"Delete Exam" from the "Acquisition" tab before you click "Accept Exam." Make
sure you click "Search" after you have deleted an entry to refresh the list.

Changing Modality and other digitizer options in
OmniVue

To change the modality or institution name for your digitized images, follow these
steps;

1. Launch OmniVue

2. Close the Worklist by clicking the "Close" button

3. From the "Option" pull-down menu, choose "Preferences"

4. Click the "Digitizer Acquisition" tab as shown below

5. Change the options such as Instituation Name, Modality, etc. that you want

* Scan Multi Film: This option allows you to digitize multiple sheets of film with a single operation. In
order to use this option, you must have a Film Feeder connected to the digitizer. Stack multiple sheets of
film in the feeder and click this button to automatically scan them. The feeder will load and feed each
film until there is no more film left in the feeder. Click exit when the last film is read.
* Scan Multi paper: This option is used to scan multiple sheets of paper. Since the multiple Film Feeder
only works with film, this option works independent of a Film Feeder. Place the first page in the digitizer
and click "Scan Multi paper." The page will be scanned. You will then see a message asking you to feed
the next page. You will have 5 seconds to place the next page in the tray. The digitizer will automatically
scan the next page and then ask for more pages. After the last page, let the program time out and stop.

Changing Image Order/Number - You can change the order in which images are
transferred to OmniVue by right-clicking your mouse on the thumbnails and
assigning the new image numbers. Normally, the images are numbered with the
first scanned image as image one. The program increments the image number as
you scan more film or paper during the same session. To change the order (image
numbers), scan all the images you want, then right-click on any of the thumbnails
you would like to be the first image in the series and choose the option "Set Image
Order." Repeat the same operation for second image and so on until the order has
been changed to the order you want. Click Exit to transfer the images in their new
order to OmniVue.

Advanced Settings (Note: See next page for a screen capture)

Film crop threshold - The value at which the digitizer will crop film. If you are not
familiar with this option, leave it on 250.

Paper crop threshold - Value at which paper will be cropped.

Paper Length - Up to 17 inches.

Calibrate on every scan - Leave at 1, this option ensures the best quality.

Lamp auto shut off time - Time before the lamp is turned off.

Film Feeder Calibration Value - Set this option to 900 or 1000. You may need to reduce
this number depending on how much of the film is being cut off when scanning
multiple films through the feeder. This option is not used if you do not have a film
feeder.

Auto-detect paper when scanning film - This option will automatically detect paper
when Scan Film option is accidently clicked but you are scanning paper.

Convert images to 8 bits - Use this option if you are going to use a Twain application
with the Twain driver. If using OmniVue, deselect this option so images are
scanned at 16 bits.

Roller cleaning reminder count - This option counts down on every scan and will
prompt the user to clean the rollers when it gets close to 0.

Path cleaning reminder count - This option counts down on every scan and will prompt
the user to clean the paper path when it gets close to 0.

Diffuser cleaning reminder count - This option counts down on every scan and will
prompt the user to clean the lamp defuser when it gets close to 0.

Crop/Slice film - This option is used to scan CT or MRI film with multiple slices on
them. Using this option, you are able to scan a single film and create multiple
images. Set the Horizontal and Vertical numbers to that of your CT or MRI film you
are scanning and select the option, "Slice the film into multiple images."

Once you perform a scan using this option, the acquisition module will show you a
preview of the image with red and blue lines marking where the images are going
to be cropped. Make adjustments to the outside red lines and click crop film to
finish the crop operation. You can also change the horizontal and vertical image
numbers in the crop preview dialog. See next two pages for more details.

If the Crop/Slice film into multiple images option is checked,

the following preview screen will be displayed after you scan a
film. Adjust the red crop lines and click on Accept to slice the
film into multiple images.

Care and Cleaning
To ensure optimal performance from your digitizer, it is important to clean several
critical parts of the scanner on a regular basis. The Acquisition Module "Settings"
dialog lets you set reminders that will notify you when it is time to clean your
digitizer. Once you clean these parts, you should reset the counters.

Cleaning the Glass Surface

1. Using both hands, gently push down the

two release buttons at both sides of the
front door in order to open the front door.
You must push both buttons
simultanously in order to release the
door.

2. Using a soft, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth,

clean the inner glass surface on the
digitizer.

Cleaning the Diffuser
The diffuser is used when you scan a X-ray film or transparent material.

To clean the diffuser:

1. Push down the two buttons at both sides

of the front door as explaned on pages 32
and 33 and open the front door.

2. Use a soft, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth to

clean the white diffuser located at the
middle of the front cover.

Cleaning the Rollers

Prolonged use of the digitizer may result in accumulation of chemicals and other
residue on the feed rollers, affecting their efficiency. Clean the rollers periodically
to maintain performance. The Acquisition Module can be set up to remind you to
clean the rollers after certain number of scans.

Rollers are found in two areas of the digitizer: directly on the digitizer, and on the
inside of the front door.

To clean the two sets of rollers:

1. Gently push down the two buttons at both sides of the front door and open the
front cover.

 2. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth or a swab moistened with alcohol or ECO
cleaner, as shown in the diagram below. Manually turn the rollers to clean the
back side as well. Make sure the digitizer is off so you can turn the rollers.

Maintenance
See the previous section "Care and Cleaning" for maintenance tips. In addition to
regular care and cleaning the rollers may become dirty after a period of time. In
this case, check the rollers and clean them with alcohol. After an extended period
of use, you may need to replace the rollers with new ones. Contact your local
dealer for the replacement of the rollers.

Appendix A

Fixing Film/Paper Jams

1. Using both hands, open the front door by
pressing the both buttons on the sides
of the front door to open the door.

2. After opening the front door, let the

jammed film or document fall into the
Output Tray or gently pull it out of the
rollers. Make sure you do not force the
film or paper out as you can scratch or
tear your film or document as well as
damage the rollers.

 Appendix B - Troubleshooting
The LEDs on the front-left panel of the scanner indicate the status of the scanner.

1. No light comes on when the digitizer is turned on

Make sure your digitizer is plugged into a power source. Also make sure the outlet has
power by plugging another device to it. Try another power outlet. You may need
repairs on your unit.

2. One of the lights continues blinking

There may be a harware problem with your digitizer. Contact your dealer.

3. Neo S60 Acquisition software will not recognize the digitizer and will only operate in
DEMO mode
Make sure your digitizer is connected to your computer.
Also, make sure you have properly followed the installation instructions. You can also
check your computer's "Device Manager" to make sure your computer recognizes the
digitizer and the drivers have been installed properly. To access "Device Manager",
double-click "My Computer" and click on "View System Information". Select
"Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager." You should be able to see a section called
"Imaging Devices" with a "+" sign to its left. Imaging Devices should not have any "!"
or "?" marks next to it. You may need to unplug the digitizer from the computer's USB
port and connect it to a different USB port on your computer and reinstall the digitizer
drivers from the software CD and/or reinstall OmniVue.

4. There is no "Acquire Digitizer" option in OmniVue

You may not have the proper license on your USB key for this feature. Contact your
dealer.

5. The option, "Acquire Digitizer" in OmniVue will not activate the Neo S60 Acquisition
Software and you get an error message.
