TASK 2: READING LESSON PLAN NAME: Unusual Holiday Homes
TEXT: Holiday Brochure
Level: Pre-Intermediate AIMS: Skills:To develop the skills of reading for gist and reading for details in a holiday brochure. Grammar:To understand the use of 1st conditional statements in an authentic context. Warm up (5 minutes): As a topic preparation exercise, a holiday brochure is first shown and students are asked to come up with an idea of what it is. It is questioned which of the resorts in the picture, and especially in which of the different resorts they would like to stay, and it is aimed to generate ideas. Pre-Reading (5 minutes): I write the word 'Yurt' on the board. I tell my students what do they imagine when they think about it. At the end, I find out which student guessed correctly first. Then I ask my students to brainstorm different homes that they can stay for holiday. After they prepare some options students can compare theirs with other students. Essential Vocabulary (5 minutes) Before reading the text, the keywords related to the text are checked first. After this activity, the main words of the reading passage are tried to be taught by explaining them in the target language. Reading for gist (1st reading) (10 After making students read the text minutes) given, then I focus on grammar and vocabulary. I explain the meaning of the text and vocabulary then the connection between grammar structure (First Conditionals) and the topic. I make sure students have some understanding of the material they just learned, as well as an understanding of its meaning and proper use. Reading for details (2nd reading) (5 This practise stage is where I want minutes) my students to get involved. Using the First Conditional structure I will give them the first part of a conditional then want them to complete them. So, for example, I can ask "If my mom is in a bad mood ... Post reading (10 minutes) In this section, it is essential to practice all the items learned by the student. The True/False exercise is necessary to measure the understanding of the text. Vocabulary work is a good activity for reinforcing learned new words.
