DESCRPITION:
Refuelling on aircraft is carried out as per applicable AMM task. This circular provides guidance on
the standardized procedure for refuelling and precautions to be adhered.
During refuelling, the refuelling panel should be manned and monitored for any malfunction or
movement of excess fuel in any tank. All safety precautions as per AMM 12-11-28-650-001-A.
should be strictly adhered.
This circular provides guidance on the Standardized Procedures to be followed for refuelling and
additional precautions to be taken during refuelling and to ensure correct functioning of refuelling
valve and CTR TK XFR valve.
PROCEDURE:
Note:
Calculate of fuel that needs to be uplifted in kgs (Dep. fuel - Arr. Fuel in kg)
Divide the required quantity by the specific gravity to provide fuel vendor the liters of
fuel to be uplifted.
As per above, fuel delivery would be stopped at the Bowser end once the desired
quantity in liters has been delivered by them.
Refuelling panel must be monitored by the AME/ Technician to ensure that fuel on
any tank do not exceed the decided amounts in each tank/ increase beyond HI Level
under any circumstances.
2. FUEL DISTRIBUTION
3. REFUELLING:
Note: As per SOP the fuel in each wing to be restricted to 5500kgs and remaining in centre tank.
whenever final fuel is between 11000 Kgs to 17000 Kgs.
(For example- if fuel figure is 12500 kgs. Distribution shall be: 5500kgs (LH), 1500kgs (CTR),
5500kgs (RH))
Operational check of the Refuelling valves should be carried out soon after start of
refuelling, by manually switching each tank refuelling valve to SHUT on the refuelling
panel.
When associated refuel valve toggle switch is moved to SHUT position, the fuel
quantity should not increase in the fuel tank. This process may take up to 30 sec.
If fuel quantity of a tank increases even after refuel valve toggle switch of associated
fuel tank is in SHUT position or HI LVL light being illuminated on the tank, it indicates
the failure of refuel valve in open position. Refuelling to be stopped immediately &
MCC to be contacted for further action.
iii. Do the operational check of CTR TANK XFR VALVES post refuelling as follows:
Push (in) the L TK PUMPS 1 or 2, R TK PUMPS 1 or 2, CTR TANK L XFR and CTR
TANK R XFR push button switches:
On fuel SD page ensure the fuel quantity indication of center tank decreases while the
fuel quantity for wing tank increases. (Usually, it may take 30-40 seconds for the fuel
transfer to start.):
Release (OUT) the CTR TK L XFR and CTR TK R XFR Push button switches.
ON fuel SD page check that fuel quantity stops increasing. This indicates both CTR
tank XFR valves are serviceable/operating correctly.
If fuel quantity on Fuel SD page continue to increase even after releasing (OUT) the
CTR TK L XFR and CTR TK R XFR Push button switches, it indicates the failure of the
affected side CTR TK XFR valve. Release out the push button switches for L TK
PUMPS, R TK PUMPS and contact MCC for further actions.
Note: Flight Operations have been advised that even if the refuelling process has been
completed on ground and there is fuel in CTR tank, FUEL PUMP or CTR TANK TFR PB should
not be switched ON before FRB acceptance by Pilot.
