LEARNING FEEDBACK DIARY

On my first day at the ERGMC hospital to practice nursing skills and management I was not expecting

anything out of ordinary. The nurses we had work with was very accommodating and helpful especially for me as a

student who are new to the working environment at the intensive care unit. Before the work begins we were given a

different roles to play inside the ICU. For me I was given the task of bedside nurse which is to be with the patient

and carry out nursing intervention near the patient.

What I had notice is the difference between ward nurse and ICU nurses because from my previous

experiences in the CMSH was only in the ward area. Now in the intensive care unit I had experience the closer

monitoring of the patient which is agitated and in pain. Some are being restrained because of their movement which

are hare to control any may risk for injury and complications. My patient from BED 1 was very participative and is

willing to let me do some of the nursing interventions for him. Although I know that anxiety and doubt is their for

him because I was only a student

The second day of my duty begins with an anxiety because the day before today, I was informed that the

roles of the functional nurse inside the intensive care unit will be rotated. However, for some reason that idea was

changed the today before the duty begins which is a little better because I am not familiarized on what a charge

nurse would do if ever it will be appointed to me. Today was a little different because today I already know my

patient and what to do every hour. For me the feeling of getting to know the patient and his/her condition was better

because it tells me what to do and what not do. Although every turns out to be fined, I did some minor mistakes that

I reported to the nurse that is instructing me. One is the Soluset where I left it dripping because I thought that it was

already being controlled by the infusion pump.

The patient was also being participated and I noticed the every once in a while he makes the sign of the

cross. I bet he really wants to get better. Every time the patients get suctioned for mucus and secretion I get the

feeling of being hurt a little because I can see from their reaction that they in pain and some are in restrained for risk

of injury since they move a lot when the nursing intervention is a little rough.
