Class Debate Rules
Instructions:
1. Each team will discuss two topics:
Leadership skills for teachers
Leadership challenges in schools (mainstream, inclusive and special needs
education)
2. All teams will discuss different points for each topic, that is perceived as the more
significant skills or worrying challenges. For example,
Team A is for leadership skill: Empathy and Team B is for Analytical skill .
Team C is for leadership challenge: lack of time and resources and Team D
is for difficulty balancing roles.
Rules:
1. The two teams will get the title on the d-day.
2. Before the opening of the debate both teams will have 5 minutes to get ready for
the debate. They can write some notes and questions on a piece of paper and
use them during the debate.
3. Before each debate the team will choose one speaker who will present his/her
ideas and opinions/stance of the topic.
4. Then team A will start discussion with their first speaker. All the speaker´s
speech should be about 10 minutes long.
5. Next, team B team will ask questions and team A answers them. All members of
both teams should involve into asking and answering questions. Asking and
answering questions should take 5 minutes.
6. The speaker of team B will present his/her ideas and opinions. Their speech
should be about 10 minutes long.
7. After that, team A will ask questions and team B answers them. All members
should involve into asking and answering questions. Asking and answering
questions should take 5 minutes.
8. The debate ends after 30 minutes of each round. Only additional 2 minutes are
given to each team to finish their speech.
Point System:
1. Relevance - speaking to the topic, using strong and persuasive arguments. (10)
2. Promptness - quick responses to all questions. (10)
3. Fluency - speaking readily without pauses. (5)
4. Engaging of all members in the debate. (5)
5. Vocabulary - its richness and width. (5)
