CEMS - Background

 With the active support of then Ministry of Shipping, Centre of Excellence in


Maritime and Shipbuilding (CEMS) started as Section 8 ‘Not for Profit’
Company without share capital and promoted by Indian Register of Shipping
(IRS)

 CEMS supports Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti initiative through skill


development in four out of seven growth engines, including ports, mass
transport, waterways and logistics

 CEMS had established this training Centre in Visakhapatnam on a1.6 Acre


campus with more than 30,000 sq.ft facility with the technical collaboration of
Siemens
 CEMS is registered with Government of India to collect and utilise CSR funds
from Government & Corporates.

 Formal Launch of CEMS on 21st Nov 2017 by Hon’ble Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari

Logistics Sector & Port management . Plan to offer employability linked courses using the

Sagarmala – Related initiatives
• DP World
• Have started discussions with DP world for setting up skill related training centers in the identified areas.
• DP World team visited CEMS and discussed the modalities .
• Cochin Port trust /CSL along with Ministry shall establish the training center and CEMS can operate and
engage in establishing this Centre.

• CSL
• Had discussions with the senior team in CSL in collaborating with them in skill development .
• They are catering to the ITI curriculum and plan to get the same approved by NSDC.

• VPT
• In discussion with VPT for establishing the training center in Visakhapatnam . Modalities to be finalized. In
advanced stage . Can start in Q4. Had discussion with the Secretary and training head of VPT.

Support needed from Ministry
Support required from Ministry

 Operations of CEMS got impacted due to COVID disruption and we are finding it difficult to sustain. The plan
to breakeven has been right shifted . CEMS requires grant support from MoPSW to sustain the operations .
Additional operational grant may please be granted to CEMS.
 We require the following infrastructure in CEMS –Visakhapatnam
 Renovation of the existing hostel infrastructure.
 Additional Classrooms
 A mini auditorium / Class to accommodate 200 students

 Capex for additional labs / courses in the following domains


 Logistics
 Drones
 3D printing
 Additional design software which are popularly used in the industry
