2.5 Absorption
The water total absorption measured on tube fragments according to on pct. 4.3.2, shall be of max 6%.
NOTE - The values in the table does not represent the bearing capacity of the tubes laid on the ditch.
2.7 Materials
3.1 The quality check for concrete sewerage tubes and fitting includes periodical checks and lot checks, where the
lots checked shall have the same cross section shape, version, shape and sizes.
3.2 The lot check shall be made on each lot individually and consists of:
- aspect check;
- size check.
3.3 The periodical checks shall be made on a 28 days aged lot (or with resistance security) examined in that
period, and includes minimum 3 tubes from the lot, chosen at random. These checks consist of:
- impermeability check once at 6 month;
- measurements of water total absorption, once at 6 month;
- measurements of the resistance on generators, once at 6 month;
- checks of generatrix straightness inside the tubes, once at one month.
NOTE - The check periods can be shorter if this was stipulated in a contract concluded between parties and are made for a
remuneration.
- 11 - STAS 816-80
3.4 The check of shape, aspect, sizes and size variations consists of an statistical check of the attributes in
conformity with STAS 3160-72, within the following parameters : Nc = II, AQL = 2.5, double project of a
regular check.
The lot size, sample size and the conditions of acceptance or rejection of the lot are indicated in table 12.
For passing to another rate of strictness the conditions stipulated by STAS 3160 - 72 must be observed.

The rejected batches may be submitted to a new test after they have been checked piece for piece.
3.5 If the results of the periodical checks are considered unsatisfactory, the test shall be taken again, using the
same number of pieces. If the results at the second test are unsatisfactory too, the batch shall be rejected and
steps must be taken to remedy the deficiency.
4 CHECK METHODS
4.1 Size check
4.1.1 The diameters and thickness measurements shall be done perpendicularly to the axis, at both the ends. It is
necessary to do two measurements for each end, the result being the average of the four measurements.
4.1.2 The sole width shall be measured at both the ends, the result being the average of the measurements.
4.1.3 Frontal surfaces out of the perpendicular alignment on axis referees to the maximal distance between a
frontal surface of the tube and a plane perpendicular to the tube axis, reaching the other frontal surface, distance
which can be calculated as the maximal difference between four generators evenly placed on the circumference.
The measurements will be done using the common measuring instruments and rounding to the nearest
milimetres.
4.1.4 The check of generatrix straightness inside straight tubes consists of measuring three diameters of the tube,
one measurement for each end and one measurement at the centre. The measurements will be done using the
gauges and plug gauges.
The difference between the inside diameter of the tube centre and the diameters of the ends must be less
than 10 mm.
4.2 Aspect check
4.2.1 The aspect of the internal and external surfaces as well as that of the connection shall be checked by visual
inspection.
4.2.2 The distribution of shrinkage cracks shall be checked by visual inspection. To check whether the cracks
had a bad influence over concrete structure use the following method:
The tubes normally dried, will be raised vertically on a solid support and struck with a hammer having a
mass of maximum 200 g. The tubes are considered adequate if the sound is clear, not hollow,.
4.3 Physical and mechanical tests
4.3.1 Impermeability check
For the impermeability test the tubes shall be kept in water at least 24 hours, before introducing them in
the testing device.
STAS 816-80 - 12 -
The testing device shall offer the possibility of filling up the tube with water, air exhausting, measuring the
water pressure and the quantity of water absorbed.
Depending on the diameter size, the supports shall have the following width (b):
D ≤ 300…b ≈ 25 mm;
300 < D ≤ 600…b ≈ 50 mm;
600 < D ≤ 1000…b ≈ 85 mm;
1000 < D … b ≈ 125 mm.
Fig. 25 Fig. 26
5.1 The concrete sewerage tubes and fitting shall be marked on the external surface scratching on them
superficially the following :
- trade mark of the producing enterprise;
- date of fabrication.
Marking can be made also stamping or painting with a waterproof paint.
5.2 A particular attention shall be paid to the tubes handling and storage in order to protect them against blows
and shocks.
5.3 Handling is generally accomplished using mechanized lifting means.
5.4 It is totally for bitten to unload the tubes on free fall, to handle the suspended tubes passing the longitudinal
cable through or using hooks to grip the ends, to knock the tubes between each other or against other objects.
5.5 The tubes shall be stored horizontally on the insertion of the socket end (in the case of socket tubes),
placing each tube directly over the other or using wood supports. The tubes may be stored vertically too,
provided that the location used for storage is plane.
5.6 For the transport, the tubes shall be placed on wood supports. If the packing was made in more lines, the
supports shall be placed on the same vertical. One may use any other devices or materials during carriage with a
view to provide the tubes safety and to avoid their damage.
5.7 The tubes with a diameter larger than 500 mm may also be carried in vertical position.
5.8 Each delivery lot shall be accompanied by the document of quality certification drawn up in conformity
with the legal provisions in force.
5.9 The tubes shall be carried 28 days after the manufacturing date and in case they have been subject of
special strengthening treatments, 28 days after the data when concrete resistance works out.
