Paper 7

This document summarizes a literature review on recommendation systems for smart learning management systems (LMS) using machine learning. The review analyzed 109 papers published between 2013-2018 on recommender systems in general and for online learning. It found that most recommender system research focused on e-commerce, movies, tourism, etc., using collaborative filtering and content-based methods. Some studies recommended courses, books, and students for online education. Opportunities remain to develop new methods and approaches for recommender systems in online learning. The findings provide a foundation for future research to develop a contextual recommender system using machine learning for a smart LMS to support online education.
