Beatitude Writing Assignment
The Beatitudes are guidelines for living and called the stepping stones to heaven.
Your task is to find someone who you think best exemplifies one of the beatitudes. The person that you might
find could be an extraordinary global citizen like Mohandas K. Gandhi. Gandhi was a leader in the fight for
civil right for the people of Africa and India. The person that you might find could be your ordinary next door
neighbor or classmate who is doing extra ordinary things.
The information that you will provide about your living beatitude:
a) Describe this extraordinary person - this should include the following as well as further detail:
a. Name and background (a short biography)
b. Role, job, or career
c. Interests and hobbies; accomplishments
b) What beatitude do they best exemplify? Explain this beatitude in your own words. Write out the
beatitude in its complete form, and explain it.
c) Describe some of the special things that they do to exemplify this beatitude. Give specific examples of
actions that show a CLEAR connection to the beatitude you mention. Know which beatitude fits! There
MUST be a connection between this person and the meaning of the beatitude.
d) What are some of the lessons that this person can teach us?
Format: the assignment is on 8 1/2x 11 paper. It could be completed by writing each answer in a separate
paragraph with the letters beside the paragraph.
Marking Criteria:
Excellent The student has clearly expressed and explored the questions and topics in an insightful way. Supporting details are given to support the
ideas expressed. The ideas are confident, engaging, and creative. Answers are based on prior knowledge and life experiences. The student response is
thoughtful, perceptive and evidence of effort is deemed excellent.
Proficient The student has completed the questions and explored the topics. Supporting details are given to support the ideas expressed are effective
support. The ideas establish a focus and are connected to prior experiences to give further support. The student response establishes purpose and
evidence of effort by the student is deemed good.
Satisfactory The student has completed the questions but the explanation of topics and questions are acceptable. The ideas are basic, generic, and
unconnected to prior experience or knowledge. The student response needs further support. The evidence of effort by the student is observed.
Limited The student has limited exploration of the topic or question is unanswered or missing. A more in-depth exploration of the topic is needed to
assess the student. The supporting details are not used as effective support for the topic. The ideas are underdeveloped with more detail needed in the
answer. The student response is limited, lacking focus and evidence of effort is missing.
The student has made no evidence of an attempt to response to the questions or the idea given in the assignment or the student has written so little
that it cannot be assessed. The students need to be complete the assignment.
