ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
NATIONAL READING MONTH
Every month of November, we celebrate the National Reading Month. In Gawad Kalinga High
School, we scheduled the Fridays of the month to cater for the different activities we have planned to
celebrate the occasion. The Language Department every year takes the advantage of the occasion to
give importance to reading and other related activities. Likewise, the Department makes use of the
Language Officers to facilitate the different activities.
Upon the receipt of the Memorandum, a meeting was called for all the Language Club Officers
to plan how the celebration would become. The very first consideration was to successfully implement
the program to students which will make the impact of the importance of reading especially in the lives
of the students. Another is that there should be no class interruption while delivering the program.
We started the celebration with the Kick-off. After one flag ceremony, we announced the start
of the celebration and encouraged the students to join the different activities / contest. We emphasized
that all activities were aiming to develop genuine love for reading. Aside from the announcement, we
also prepared posters of the different activities and posted to conspicuous area around the school
compound. We scheduled the last Friday to be the Culminating Program where here we announced the
winners of the different contest. Certificates were given to recognize all the winners.
Contest for Readers’ Theater, Speech Choir, Declamation, Oration and News casting were
offered to all sections. And we opened all our references such as books, magazines, encyclopedias etc.
for our students to read anytime of the day during their free time in a less formal atmosphere.
November 11, 2016, we held the contest on Readers’ Theater and News Casting, while on
November 18 were the contest on Speech Choir and Declamation and Oration. Each section should have
representation in the entire contest and Advisers were advised to coach their respective section. And
November 25, 2017 was the Closing Program. Joy Hernandez of Grade 9 Sampaguita won the Oratorical
and News Casting Contest. Grade 8 Vinzons won the Speech Choir and Grade 9 IlangIlang won the
Reader’s Theater contest.
It was indeed another successful implementation of “The National Reading Month”.
Congratulations to Language Department.
