NWS-SZ-AL-RAMS-00-Water Proofing Membrane

This method statement summarizes the safety procedures for a project expanding the Dammam Depot in Saudi Arabia from November 2018 to November 2019. It involves applying liquid waterproofing and bituminous membrane waterproofing. Hazards include electric shock from power tools, fire or explosion from membrane application, and falls from working at height. Controls include isolating work areas, conducting toolbox talks, using PPE, maintaining safe access, and ensuring equipment is inspected and operators are competent. The risk rating takes into account these existing control measures.

Method of Statement

Surface Preparation:

a) Diamond Grinding Machine will be used to do the following:

b) Clean and remove all lose particles not part of the substrate
concrete such as cement mortar, oil, grease, paint and any other contaminants, to establish sound and
firm concrete which will provide a good mechanical bond between the existing surface and the
coating. Project
1. Engineer
c) Removing all laitance or weak concrete.
d) In area where aggregate is exposed it is required to use putty before applying Nitoproof 600 to
improve smooth surface. Or to use skim coat of cementitious fairing coating.
e) Opening all crakes by handheld grinding the crack 3mm x 5mm
deep using small grinder and filling the void by putty.
f) Cleaning the concrete surface thoroughly by water to remove all particles and dust.
Concrete patch Repair:

g) Where joints are sharp edges, different in depth. Chipping for existing joints to be done to smooth
the joint and to remove the deep edges of the joins. A non-shrinkage patch material to be used to fill

the depth and chipped area between the joints. ( to be done by main contractor )
h) For honeycomb, chipping and removing the loose concrete, filling
the chipped concrete with a non-shrinkage patch repair material with adding a bonding agent to the
mix to bond with existing concrete substrate. ( to be done by main contractor

Application of liquid membrane waterproofing(Nitoproof 600)(Roof of accommodation building 1)

2.
1. After site preparation and completion of civil and MEP works application of liquid membrane Project
waterproofing will start by using hand roller. Engineer

Application of Bituminous double layer membrane waterproofing(Roof of accommodation building 1)

3. Project
Surface Preparation:- Engineer

1. After MEP and civil work finish his work and approved by the consultant, we get clearance to
start.

2. Concrete substrate must be clean, free from any oil, grease, etc.

3. In area where aggregate is exposed it is required to repair the exposed aggregate with cement
material or non-shrinkage cement material.

Light Weight Concrete Screed to Slope Application:-

- Lightweight concrete Screed laid to falls and cross fall 1% (50mm) minimum thickness.

Method Statement – Revision 01 This is page 3 of 13 Almarai CPP Projects

Dated: 26 AUGUST 2019
Double Layer Application for Roof:-
1. Supply and apply a bituminous primer supplied by manufacture. Apply the primer on the
concrete surface. Leave for one day before applying the top layers.

2. Supply and apply first layer of 4mm bituminous membrane supplied by, torch applied with
heating the surface of membrane to be fixed over the concrete substrate. Between layers, an
overlap of 100mm to be done to cover the joints between one layer and another in vertical and
horizontal area.

3. Supply and apply second layer of 4mm bituminous membrane supplied by, torch applied with
heating the surface of membrane to be fixed over the concrete substrate. Between layers, an
overlap of 100mm to be done to cover the joints between one layer and another in vertical and
horizontal area. The center of second layer membrane must be fixed over the joints of the first
layer.

Heat Insulation Application for Roof:-

1. Supply and apply single layer 50mm Thermal heat insulation board on top of membrane.
2. Supply and apply one layer of 200micron of plastic sheet or 200gr/m² non-woven geotextile as
separation layer under heat insulation.
3. Aluminum flashing 5cm will be fixed for termination and it will be close with
sealant.

Method Statement – Revision 01 This is page 4 of 13 Almarai CPP Projects

Dated: 26 AUGUST 2019
NOTE: Hot work activity will be carried only for laying Bituminous double layer membrane on Roof of
accommodation building 1.
No work will be carried out under direct sunlight during mid day ban.
