Overview of the Economy:
• NCOC (National command and operating Centre) as a single
organization for key decisions.
• Prior to Covid 19, the working population was 55.740M
• This number declined to 35.040M
• Due to prudent decisions, Working population reached to
52.560M till October, 2020.
• Manufacturing: first 9 months of FY-2021, highest period wise
growth of 8.99% since FY2007.
Overview of the Economy:
• Current account: Posted a surplus of $0.8 billion, during July-April ,
FY2021 for the first time in 17 years.
• Home Remittances: Posted historically high growth of 29% and reached
to $24.2 Billion (Roshan digital Account inflows crossed 1Billion $
mark).
• SBP’s foreign exchange reserves rose to $16 Billion.
• Pakistan has been added into Amazon’s seller list.
• Pakistan stock exchange earned the title of being the best Asian Stock
market and fourth best performing market across the world in 2020.
Agriculture:
• GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth rate is estimated as 3.94%.
(higher than the targeted growth of 2.1%) (-0.47% FY-2020):
• Growth in Agriculture: 2.77 % (Target 2.8%)
• Growth in Industrial Sector: 3.57%
• Growth in Services Sector: 4.43%
• NAEP (National Agriculture Emergency Programme with a cost of
Rs. 277 billion rupee is already underway (13 Mega projects).
• Rabi Package of Rs. 5.4 billion to reduce input cost.
Agriculture:
• The minimum support price of wheat further has been further
enhanced from Rs. 1400 to Rs. 1800 per 40 KG.
• The Agriculture Credit disbursement target for the current fiscal
year has been set as Rs. 1500 Billion.
• Agriculture Sector Contributes 19.2 % to the GDP.
• Agriculture Sector Provides employment to around 38.5% of the
labour force.
• More than 65-70 % of the population depends on agriculture for
its livelihood.

• Kharif Season(The first sowing Season):
Starts from April to June & is harvested from October to December.
e.g. rice, sugarcane, cotton, maize, moong, mash, Bajra and Jowar.
• Rabi Season (The second season):
Sowing begins October to December & is harvested from april to
May. e.g. Wheat, gram, lentil (masoor). Tobacco, rapeseed, barley
and mustard.
Agriculture:
• The overall crop sector having a share of 35.81% in agriculture value
addition & 6.87 % in GDP.
• Growth of Important crops (Wheat, rice, sugarcane, maize and cotton)
was 4.65%, contributes 22.49 % to value addition in agriculture &
4.32% in GDP:
• Major Kharif crops:
• Production of sugarcane increased by 22% to 81.009m tonnes.
• Rice by 13.6% to 8.419 m tonnes.
• Maize by 7.4 % to 8.465 million tonnes.
• The cotton production reduced by 22.8 %, to 7.064 million bales from
9.148 million bales last year.
Agriculture:
• Wheat, the most important Rabi Crop, growth of 8.1 % and reaches to
27.293 million tonnes production.
• Wheat area increased to 9.178 million hectares.
• Other crops having a share of 11.69 % in agriculture value addition and
2.24 % in GDP, showed growth of 1.41%
• Cotton ginning declined by 15.58%.
• Livestock Having a share of 60.07 % in agriculture and 11.53 % in GDP.
• The fishing share 0.39 % share in GDP and Forestry sector having 0.40
% in GDP.
Agriculture:
• Water availability during Kharif 2020 remained at 65.1 million acre
feet (MAF) (65.2 MAF of kharif 2019).
• Rabi season 2020-21 received 31.2 MAF.
• Pakistan a major producer of cotton (5th in ICAC).
• Rice is second main staple food crop after wheat and the second
major exportable commodity after cotton.
• During FY2021, 2.917 million tonnes of edible oil value Rs.
574.199 billion (US $ 3.419billion) was imported.
Agriculture:
• Operational Tractors in the country is around 612000, resulting in
availability of around 0.09 HP per acre against the required power of
1.4HP per acre.
• Total tractor production (Jul-Mar 2021) was 36653.
• During the monsoon (July-Sept) rainfall received at 198.9mm. (average
rainfall 140.9mm)
• During post monsoon season (October-December)2020, rainfall was
recorded at 22.2mm (Average rainfall 26.44mm).
• During winter season (January-March) 2021, rainfall recorded was
40.3mm (average rainfall 74.3mm)
Agriculture:
• Canal head withdrawls decreased during kharif (April-September)
2020 to 65.11MAF.
• During Rabi (October-March) 2020-21 it increases to 31.21MAF.
• Pakistan declared in top 10 countries in world, most effected by
climate Change.
