Each September, people unite from all corners of the world to raise awareness and to
challenge the stigma that persists around Alzheimer’s disease and all types of dementia
World Alzheimer's Month is a global opportunity to raise awareness around, educate,
encourage support for and demystify dementia. World Alzheimer’s Day takes place on 21 September as part of World Alzheimer's Month.
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to
shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia — a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that affect a person's ability to function independently. The risk of Alzheimer's increases with age and is most common in people over 65. The symptoms of Alzheimer's are commonly referred to as the 5 A's of Alzheimer's which include: Amnesia, Apraxia, Agnosia, Aphasia, and Anomia. Often the most recognized symptom refers to memory loss. People with Alzheimer's may have trouble deciding what to do each day, which could make them fearful and worried or quiet and withdrawn, or they may have trouble starting tasks. Remember, the person is not being lazy. He or she might need help organizing the day or doing an activity. So in this Alzheimer’s and Brain awareness month let us join hands and take the vow to support Alzheimer’s patients so that they can lead healthy and beautiful life. There are many ways to get involved with World Alzheimer’s Month, whether it be sharing messages on social media, attending events put on by your national association or fundraising. No action is too small. Each September, we call on everyone, from individuals to large organizations, including every Alzheimer’s and dementia association globally, to support World Alzheimer’s Month by getting involved and sharing our messages on social media. Thank you for responding to the call. Mabuhay tayong lahat…
