Introduction
Windows are of great interest for designers and architects
because they are important architectural components in a building. Windows play a critical role in the three aspects of building design, The first aspect is the appearance of the building, the second aspect is site embrace, and the last is the comfort. Types of windows
There are several types of windows that are used in building
construction 1-Single hung: referring to a window with a fixed top sash and a lower sash that slides vertically .They are raised from the bottom to allow air into your home, they give any home a classic look. 1- Single hung window 2-Double -Hung window Double - Hung : referring to a window with two vertical sliding sashes, one over the other. The only difference between the double-hung and single-hung is that the single-hung has a moveable lower sash and a fixed upper sash, while double- hung has two movable sashes; the upper sash slides down. They are the most common and familiar window types . 2-Double- Hung window 3-Dormer window Dormer: a vertical window and window box that projects from a sloping roof, has its own roof, most commonly a pedimental or gable roof. 4-Bay windows Bay windows are an excellent resource for architects to create angles and projections on a building structure. Bay windows allow light to enter at different angles, and most bays include side windows that can be opened for airflow. Bays are commonly used in kitchens and family rooms, where the large sill of the window can be used for plants or a window seat Bay- window 5-Palladian window Palladian: a three-part window where the centre window is arched and wider than the two straight topped side windows, named for the 15the century Italian architect Andreas Palladino. It is also known as a Venetian Window. 6-Sidelight window Sidelight: windows placed on either side of another window or door that are narrower than the centre opening. 7- Fanlights window Fanlights: an arched window with radiating glazing bars that imitate a fan, placed over a door; loosely any over- door window. 8-Horizontal Sliding Windows Horizontal sliding windows have two or more sashes that overlap slightly but slide horizontally within the frame. It can slide easily. 9-Casement Windows A casement window is one that is hinged on its side, and normally opens outwards rather than inwards. This makes it very easy to operate. Since it opens outwards, it cannot be used in some situations, such as when the window opens out into a corridor, as it will block movement. These windows are designed to resist rain and wind from the outside in, so their direction cannot be reversed. This type of windows was common in the UK before the invention of sash window. This type of construction is perfect for those spots that are difficult to reach around the house, such as over the kitchen sink or tight corners. 9-Casement Windows 10- Skylights Windows
Skylights generally provided on the top of sloped roofs, to
admit light into the rooms. It is provided parallel to the sloping surface. Sky lights can be opened when we required. Lead gutters are arranged to frame to make it as his waterproof . This type of window is commonly seen on vacation houses and cabins because besides that fact that it conserves energy, it also provides a beautiful view of the sky from the outside. 10- Skylights Windows
