Course Title : Business Models using Cloud and IoT


Credits : 1 Credit
Type : Compulsory
Session Duration : 75 minutes
Term : VI
Year : 2021-2022

Course background and objectives:

In the business landscape, the advantages of connected devices are many. The next disruptive
technology, Internet of Things (IoT) is the buzzword across industries today. It holds great potential in
delivering tangible value to businesses as well as governments. IoT coupled with Cloud, another
contemporary technology, have been impacting organizations of all scale and size and leading to
creation of innovative and disruptive business models. Today’s organizations and managers are
rethinking their businesses to harness the power of these technologies to drive business value and
come up with new offerings with an emphasis on service models. The purpose of this course is to
familiarize the students with Cloud and IoT technologies, fast paced developments happening in these
areas and the impact made by these on business models for established as well as evolving enterprises.
This course is a combination of lectures, case analysis and discussion.

Objectives:

The key objectives of the course are as follows.

a) Enables the students, learn about Cloud and IoT as emerging technological trends and a basic
understanding of the underlying technologies.
b) Impact of these technologies on how business is conducted, especially with regard to business
models, processes and creation of innovations and new opportunities.
c) Introduction to the enabling technologies with special focus on Cloud and IoT and associated
solution architectures
d) To share through case studies typical trends of these emergent technology applications in
specific enterprises, well known for these applications, how the emerging opportunities were
identified and how they provided a strategic advantage, in Indian and international context.
Pedagogy

The pedagogy will be a mix of classroom lectures, concepts building, case discussions, white
paper discussions and group project work.
