I’m Ella Justice and I’m going to be talking about Foley and how its changed over the years, from the 1920s
to 2020.

lettuce to symbolize the monsters ear opening.

monster gets around without being able to see, for
this they used a stun gun and put it up against
 some grapes. They then manipulated the stun gun
sound to symbolize the monster’s sound.

How foley has changed from 1920s to nowadays – 2020. The

1920s
The technology in the 1920s were very limited ways to create
foley. In the 1920s they had a microphone but it would only pick
up dialogue, Jack had a small team working with him to create the
sound effects while they projected the film on screen. As they
didn’t have a lot of technology, they had to be precise with them
recording as they only had a single track of audio because of this
their timings had to be good so everything would synchronize. In
1926 Warner Brothers introduced something called a Vitaphone,
after they introduced this, they were able to synchronise sound to Voice over
the moving picture. They used the Vitaphone on the movie The 1920s
Jazz Singer.

Foley has been used since the 1920s and is big part of the film industry. Foley is important part of creating a
film as it isn’t just the visuals it’s the sound effects that accompany it. The sound effects in a movie help the
viewer get into the mood and atmosphere of the movie, if it’s from a horror movie to a love movie. Sound is
an important part of the industry. Throughout the time foley has been around from the 1920s technology
has greatly improved and now In the 21st century we are able to Add sound to movies more easily. I think
foley has greatly improved since the 1920s and find it impressive how it’s used and made in different
circumstances with different objects. Especially in the movie A quiet place , how they used different objects
to create sound.
